IndiGo Responds After Woman Slams Airline For Overcharging On Baggage, Calls It A Scam

4 minutes read

A woman allegedly became a victim of a scam by IndiGo Airlines when she was charged for additional baggage despite her luggage being within the prescribed limits. The alumna of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi shared her disappointing experience during a flight from Delhi to Bengaluru. She slammed the airlines for charging her wrongfully on a LinkedIn post. Her post went viral quickly and IndiGo responded to it.

The woman had to pay Rs 4,200 as an additional baggage charge despite keeping the weight under mentioned limits

She posted some pictures and shared her experience on LinkedIn. According to the post, during her flight from Delhi to Bengaluru, the woman was told at the check-in counter that her baggage exceeded the 15 kg limit by 7 kg. As her luggage exceeded the limit, she was made to pay an additional charge of Rs 4,200.

In a post on LinkedIn, Isha shared her ordeal and called out IndiGo as a “scam” and she criticized the airline’s lack of accountability. She wrote,

“Indigo is a Scam! I recently travelled from Delhi to Bangalore with IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) Airlines, and my experience was nothing short of disappointing”

But Isha was sure her baggage complied with the authorized weight limit because she had checked it before leaving home. However, due to time constraints, Isha reluctantly agreed to pay the fee.

Isha said,

“At the Delhi airport, while checking in, I was told my baggage had 7 kg of excess weight. Despite being confident that my luggage was under the 15 kg limit (I had measured it at home), I was forced to pay Rs 4,200 due to a lack of time to contest and needing to reach the boarding gate on time”

Isha rechecked her luggage after landing in Bengaluru just to reconfirm, she was shocked to see that it was well within the 15 kg limit. Isha claimed,

“Upon reaching Bangalore, I decided to re-check my weight of my luggage, as I was certain there was a mistake. As suspected, the weight was well within the 15 kg limit”

When she approached the IndiGo staff at the Bengaluru airport, they acknowledged the error and directed her to escalate the issue via email. Yet, despite numerous calls, emails, and complaints, Isha mentioned that she received no resolution or refund. She added,

“The Indigo staff at Bangalore acknowledged the discrepancy and provided me with an email ID to escalate the matter. Since then, I’ve made multiple calls, sent countless emails, and raised numerous complaints, but I’ve received no resolution or refund”

Isha slammed the airlines for their alleged negligence, and wrote,

“It’s disheartening to see such a renowned airline resort to tactics that feel deceitful, potentially extorting money from unsuspecting passengers”.

She wrote,

“I demand a full refund of Rs 4200 and a compensation for the inconvenience caused,”

She also urged other travelers to double-check their baggage weight and stay alert to similar practices. She added,

“Airlines must prioritise customer trust and experience over profit.”
