Yograj Singh’s patriarchal comments during ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’ sparked controversy

Yograj Singh has recently faced criticism for remarks made during an interview with Samdish Bhatia on the “Unfiltered” podcast. His statements have been perceived as patriarchal and misogynistic.

According to Yograj Singh, Hindi is a “feminine” language that is more suited for women. He said,

Mujhe to Hindi language aise lagti hai jaise koi aurat bol rahi ho.

He went on to say that it seems odd for men to speak Hindi, suggesting that men should use Punjabi instead, which he believes to be a more masculine language.

Singh also voiced strong opposition to women in leadership roles, especially in the home. Taking reference to former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, he said,

Wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power.

For those who do not know, Arjun only spent 12 days training under Yograj prior to making his Goa first-class debut. After smashing a century on his debut, he received an offer from the Mumbai Indians. Ever since, he has never returned to Yograj for training. Yograj Singh explained the cause of it by saying:

Sachin’s son. He comes here for 12 days and scores a hundred. When he scored a hundred on debut and then returned to IPL, people feared that his (Arjun) name will stick with him (Yograj). Are you understanding my point? I told Yuvi (Yuvraj) to call Sachin and ask him to give me Arjun for a year. See what happens after that.

He also discussed the tense parts of their father-son bond, admitting that his strict parenting style forced them to grow emotionally apart. He was proud of Yuvraj’s accomplishments but refrained from claiming credit, stating that Yuvraj’s resilience was a result of his difficult childhood. However, he made a controversial claim, stating,

I was a much better batsman than Yuvraj.
