Vivek Agnihotri, a filmmaker, is presently on 9th cloud as a result of his film The Kashmir Files. Not only has the director been praised and honoured across the world for his work, but The Kashmir Files has also broken multiple box office records.

Nobody was shocked when The Kashmir Files earned Rs. 3.5 crores on its first day at the box office on March 11. There were no famous names in the movie. Vivek Agnihotri’s last film, which he also directed, had a lifetime gross of Rs. 20 crores.

As per this record, its opening felt like a promising start. Within a week, though, the film had surpassed Baahubali in terms of box office receipts. The fact that a film with a budget of less than 30-40 crore hit the Rs. 200 crore milestone was not only unexpected but unprecedented.

Despite mixed reviews, reviewers commended the film for drawing awareness to the forcible displacement of Kashmiri Hindus from the Kashmir valley. The plot alternates between the present day (2021) and recollections from 1989 to 1990 throughout the film.

The film, which depicted the actual experience of Kashmiri Pandits who were forcibly displaced from their homeland by Islamic terrorists in 1990 and experienced genocide, has received widespread acclaim for its hard-hitting content. Vivek outstandingly executes the film and he is worthy of all praises.

However, Vivek Agnihotri made news even before The Kashmir Files because of alleged harassment charges made against him by Tanushree Dutta

Tanushree, who spearheaded the MeToo movement in Bollywood, accused Vivek of harassment during the filming of her film Chocolate: Deep Dark Secrets in an early interview with India Today. In 2018, the actress said that Vivek Agnihotri instructed her to take off her clothes so that she could offer cues to her co-star Irrfan Khan, who rescued her. She recalled the incident, saying,

“I was wearing a towel on my costume and standing behind the camera. This guy (Vivek Agnihotri) wanted me to give cues to an actor (Irrfan). It was an actor’s close-up. It was not even my shot. I was not even going to be in the shot. It was the actor’s close-up and he had to just look at something and give expressions. This director told me, ‘Jao jaake kapde utaar ke nacho, usko cues do.”

She went on to say that Irrfan Khan was the one who saved her. Tanushree was quoted saying,

“It was his close-up shot. I’m not in the frame. He had to look at me and give some expressions. Why do I have to dance in front of him for him to give expressions in his close-up shot? This director tells me ‘jao jaake kapde utaar ke naacho’. I was shocked.”

Vivek Agnihotri, on the other hand, issued a statement on social media denying Tanushree’s claims. All of her assertions were labelled “false frivolous” by him.

Recently this controversy again flared up with the release of The Kashmir Files by his haters as Vivek got a lot of positive attention. Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Kangana Ranaut were among the celebrities who pushed and encouraged people to watch The Kashmir Files. Apart from this, many organizations and even lots of Bhartiya Janta Party leaders including Narendra Modi itself endorsed the film
