Vivek-Agnihotri-Arvind-Kejriwal-The-Kashmir-Files reply

The footage of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal discussing making The Kashmir Files tax-free in the city has been doing the rounds on social media since yesterday. The video was taken from the Delhi assembly and was widely circulated on social media, with many people denouncing the politician. Netizens chastised the CM for his harsh words, and a few politicians also responded.

Anupam Kher tweeted after Kejriwal’s video went viral, encouraging his followers to see the movie in cinemas. The film is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and has already surpassed the Rs 200 crore mark.

For the unversed, during his recent speech in the Delhi Assembly, Arvind Kejriwal said,

“They (BJP) are demanding that the movie be declared tax-free in Delhi. Upload it on YouTube, the movie will become free and everyone will be able to watch it.”

Why Arvind Kejriwal made such remarks on The Kashmil Files?

He said this because Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Kashmir Files is still on a roll at the box office. With its acceptance and collection, the picture has created a precedent. With each passing day, the image improves further. Despite mixed reviews, reviewers appreciated the film for bringing attention to the forcible displacement and genocide of Kashmiri Hindus in the Kashmir valley.

Despite the absence of famous actors or fresh marketing, a film has inspired such widespread interest in Indian cinema for the first time. It’s also worth mentioning that numerous personalities have spoken out against the film, while others have supported it. However, political groups, most notably the governing Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), have come out in explicit favour of the film.

Even the Prime Minister has expressed his support for the film. Opposition leaders, on the other hand, have labelled the movie as propaganda or half-truth by the ruling party. And that’s the main reason why opposition leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are reluctant to say something in support of this movie.

The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri has replied to Arvind Kejriwal’s nasty remarks

Vivek Agnihotri replied to Arvind Kejriwal in an interview with Firstpost by saying,

“Did he (Kejriwal) really say that? Am I really supposed to react to something so absurd? Would he ask Steven Spielberg to upload Schindler’s List on YouTube? Not that I am comparing my small film to Schindler’s List. Just asking.”

He further added,

“Two crore people have seen The Kashmir Files already. They are responding with deep pure emotions. I would rather concentrate on those two-crore people than the 20 politicians who are professional abusers. I have just returned from Bhopal where the Chief Minister has agreed to give me all provisions to open a genocide museum. This would be the ultimate monument to peace, right from the time of Adi Shankaracharya to the present day. We need to think about the way ahead and not try to stop those who are doing so.”

Not only that, but Vivek Agnihotri was questioned about it again at the Chitra Bharati Film Festival at Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, where he replied,

“There are people who are a fool, then there are mad and then there are idiots. All these three categories of people should be avoided, they should not be answered.”

But don’t you think that even if Delhi CM doesn’t want to make this movie tax free, he doesn’t have to make mockery about this film in Delhi legislative assembly, especially when the movie is made on such a serious topic? It only harms his own image rather than affecting the movie.

What do you think about this?
