Indian Railways is a means of travel for the masses in the country. For long-distance journeys, most travelers prefer trains. There is a rush and a flush of passengers during special occasions and festivals. Despite having special trains on the railways, most people struggle to get confirmed tickets during rush hour.

It is expected to have a wait-listed ticket or RAC during this time. But this time, things went crazy! A passenger was utterly disappointed when his RAC ticket suddenly turned into waiting.

A passenger shared his unfortunate experience when his RAC ticket turned to waiting list

Can ticket status change from RAC to Waiting List

What is a RAC ticket?

In Indian Railways, a RAC ticket (Reservation Against Cancellation) means that the passenger gets permission to travel but does not get the full berth. The passenger needs to share the seat with a fellow RAC passenger who would be allotted the same berth. If a passenger cancels their ticket during the journey, the RAC ticket holder’s status becomes confirmed and they can get the full berth.

There are generally 7 types of waiting categories in the Indian Railways

  • GNWL
  • RLWL
  • PQWL
  • TQWL
  • RSWL
  • RAC

When Kamlesh asked for updates on his complaint he was informed that it was a result of some technical issue

Moving from RAC to the waiting list can be due to a technical problem

A ticket status can change from RAC to the waiting list due to technical flaws such as server issues, software updates, or data synchronization. Recently, the railways informed passengers about these issues on social media. They also assured the passengers that the technical team is working to resolve the issue so that such inconvenience does not happen in the future.

With the rising grievances of passengers, the Railways are encouraging them to use the Rail Madad App to register their complaints on the Rail Madad app. Passengers can also track the status of their complaints through the app.

This positive response from the Railways is encouraging other passengers to share their problems and reach out to the railways directly.
