The internet can’t get enough of Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s sizzling chemistry in the Gehraiyaan teaser. This movie is a bold but complex take on modern-day relationships, their different phrases and the emotions involved in them.
Gehraiyaan is the first Indian feature-length film to credit a person as an intimate director, starring Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa in prominent roles.

Shakun Batra’s roped in Dar Gai as an intimacy director, an Indian-born Ukrainian director. In the movie, Deepika plays the role of Alisha, a young woman who falls in love with her cousin’s fiance, Siddhant, in a bizarre chain of circumstances.
Dar discusses the job of an intimacy director in ensuring that performers feel comfortable in an interview with Hindustan Times. Dar remarked when asked about her experience working with the actors,
“It was amazing. I was supposed to come for five days – one week to conduct the workshops and direct the music videos but I stayed there for a month and a half. The hospitality and everyone’s energies allowed us to explore going beyond boundaries. The workshops we did with Deepika and Siddhant were fun because of their vulnerability and childish wonder and that helped a lot on sets.”
She added,

“Suppose there is a kiss scene, but maybe I don’t feel that way towards my co-actor. What if I feel vulnerable, or what if I have anxiety, or what if I do not know how to create that chemistry with my partner? All these questions will be answered and taken care of, by the intimacy director. It helps to take a look from aside the director.”
Their passionate intimate scenes appear effortless and natural, and we’re sure that filming them was a challenging task.

Deepika Padukone recently opened out during the trailer launch of Gehraiyaan about her personal parts in the film, which she described as “not easy.”
As per PTI, during the virtual press conference, Deepika said,
“Shakun gave me and all of us the comfort, you feel safe and secure because intimacy is not easy. It is not something that we ever experienced or explored in Indian cinema before in a way we have in this film.”
She further added,

“So, to go down that route of intimacy and vulnerability is possible when you know the director is not doing it for eyeballs. Because that is where the characters are coming from, their experience and journey. It is possible when you feel safe and secure in the environment.”
Deepika also discussed her role in the film, which sounds intriguing. She stated she’s done a lot of love tales and relationship drama films in the past, but this is the first time she’s played a character like this. She stated,
“I want to say that my character in Gehraiyaan is bold. I also don’t want to say bold because (of) the way we understood bold in our films and the characters that we’ve seen. So, I’d say raw. I think, for me, this character is a lot more raw and a lot more real than some of the other characters that I have played. Emotionally, it is completely stripped and naked in that sense, and completely vulnerable.”
Shakun Batra said he hired an intimate director to capture such sessions because he wanted to treat it like a character. Shakun said,
“We were treating intimacy like a story and we want to see it like a character. So, the prep and the detailing was required. It was important we have an intimacy director. And Dar Gai has contributed a lot to the film. It is important to give her the same respect as we give to all HODs.”
Gehraiyaan released on Amazon Prime on 11th February.
