Arijit Singh Apologied Salman Khan After 2014 Award Show Fight: ‘He Replied Saying I Shouldn’t…’

In the glitzy world of Bollywood, where fantasies are brought to life on the big screen. However, this power and love-giving industry is also not untouchable of disagreements and controversies. The continuing conflict between two well-known members of the business, Salman Khan, the famous actor, and Arijit Singh, the talented playback singer, is one such dispute that has been in the news for several years. This quarrel, which started off as a relatively small event, has developed into a long and intricate debate.

However, after nine years, it appears that Salman Khan and Arijit Singh have put their differences behind them. Finally, the artist was able to perform Prabhu Leke Ka Naam for Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3. Needless to say, fans rejoiced at the news, as this marked a significant moment of reconciliation in the Bollywood industry.

However, to understand the roots of their dispute, we have to rewind to 2014, when the feud first ignited.

Arijit Singh’s casual attitude at the award ceremony irked Salman Khan

It was the year 2014 when Salman was hosting an award ceremony and Arijit got awards for lending his voice to Aashiqui 2’s melodious songs. The feud started when Salman Khan noticed Arijit Singh sleeping off in the crowd during an awards ceremony. In an effort to lighten the mood, Singh joked that he had fallen asleep because of Salman and Riteish Deshmukh’s hosting. Unfortunately, Khan didn’t find this joke amusing.

Also, Arijit’s decision to accept his prize while dressed casually and donning chappals added fuel to the flames. It is because Salman Khan doesn’t like this kind of attitude. The breaking point was reached when Salman noticed Arijit heading towards the exit right after receiving his award. This makes Salman Khan assume that Arijit was leaving immediately.

Arijit apologized to Salman Khan over text message

Two years later, in an interview with IANS, Arijit Singh provided his side of the story. He said that he had slept off during the awards ceremony because of extreme exhaustion from his job. As his name was announced for the award, he was startled awake by someone. On this, Arijit said,

“I was on my seat and very tired. So I dozed off. As you know, these award functions go on for hours. When my name was announced for the award, someone had to wake me up. I know it was wrong. But I was tired and I dozed off.”

Arijit Singh acknowledged his error and said that his remark on Salman’s hosting was a result of nervousness. He added,

“While I was walking up to the stage, they started capturing my images in my chappals and casuals. On stage, Salman Khan was laughing in disbelief saying, ‘Tu hai winner’ (You’re the winner)? When I got on stage, he asked me if I had fallen asleep. In my nervousness I blurted out, ‘Aap logon ne sula dia’ (you all put me to sleep). I immediately bit my tongue.”

He even privately apologized to Salman, whispering his regret into the actor’s ear while receiving the award. Arijit said,

“When he handed me the award, I whispered ‘sorry’ into his ear. I couldn’t say more there. When I came down from the stage, I couldn’t find my seat. So I just started walking away. Salman sir saw that and commented, ‘Look at this guy. He has collected his award in chappals and now he’s walking away.’ I got really scared and didn’t know what to do.”

Fast forward to 2016, the singer revealed that he regretted his behavior at the show while he was going back to Kolkata. He immediately apologized to Salman in a text message after landing. Speaking about this in 2016, Arijit Singh said,

“That night when I was in my flight, I kept thinking about the incident and felt sorry about it. When I reached Kolkata, I texted him. He texted me back saying I shouldn’t have gone so casually and I shouldn’t disrespect awards. I was happy that he rebuked me as a senior and that he had got the anger out of his system. I didn’t know he was still angry.”

Fast forward to the present, and this feud is now a thing of the past. Salman Khan has obviously gotten over the incident. Now, the reunion between these two important Bollywood stars represents a step in the direction of a more peaceful industry.
