The latest reason as to why Zomato is in the news again is quite astounding. For all the right reasons? Not really. This popular food delivery service is being accused of suspending the account of one of its delivery partners based on Mumbai.

This sparked a viral story about the delivery partner also could be known as the Zomato rider, needing funds for his sister’s marriage. Is this really true though? Netizens are questioning its authenticity.

An X (formerly known as Twitter) user named Soham Bhattacharya took to the social media platform to share an absurd tale. Via his post he shared how he met a Zomato delivery agent named Ayush Saini who claims to be struggling financially.

As per his post, he came across Ayush in Mumbai’s GTB Nagar who was weeping and claimed to have not eaten anything. According to Bhattacharya, Saini was trying hard to save money for his sister’s upcoming wedding. The suspension of Saini’s account by Zomato just days before the wedding made his situation even more difficult.

Although some doubt the truth of the story, Bhattacharya emphasized Saini’s struggles, including his financial troubles, and shared Saini’s UPI QR code in the post. He also tagged Zomato and several BJP officials in his message.

Now another X user named Shreela Roy took to the social media platform and questioned the authenticity of the story

Labeling the whole situation as a Scam Alert, an X user named Shreela Roy took to the social media platform and questioned the viral story of the Zomato rider. She raised doubts about the authenticity of the situation, cautioning people against supporting or donating money to efforts supposedly for Saini. Her post suggested that it might be a ploy by dishonest individuals to make quick money through deception.

Roy’s post on X warned people not to fall for the scam, emphasizing that Saini hadn’t directly addressed the issue, implying that the fundraising could be a tactic to deceive kind-hearted individuals using QR codes.

Her post reads as we quote,

“This is FAKE! DO NOT donate or support it. It’s one of those scamsters trying to make quick money by fabricating stories. No one has managed to get direct details from this Zomato rider. They’re only attempting to exploit QR codes to make money.”

Many netizens took to the comment section of her post and raised doubts

Zomato responded to the matter by saying

Zomato replied to the post on March 29, expressing their appreciation for their delivery partners and acknowledging the seriousness of suspending an account. They assured that they would investigate the matter thoroughly.
