Zomato Responds After Delivery Man Breaks Down In Tears Over ‘Blocked’ Account

It’s not uncommon to come across Zomato delivery agents while you are on the road, but watching one crying on the road is a rare sighting. In Delhi’s GTB Nagar, a Zomato delivery partner was spotted crying uncontrollably and asking everyone for money. When asked about the reason for his breakdown, he said that the food delivery giant had “blocked” his account and that his sister was about to get married soon.

Soham Bhattacharya, an X user, came across the Zomato delivery man in GTB Nagar and shared his plight which went viral

An individual who saw the Zomato delivery partner in Delhi’s GTB Nagar “sobbing like anything”, inquired about the reason for his despair. The Zomato delivery partner explained that his account had been blocked by Zomato just before days of his sister’s marriage. The delivery man said that he is currently battling a financial crisis because of that. Soham Bhattacharya took a photograph of the delivery partner and shared the incident on the social media platform, X. The post went viral and now has over 5 million views and numerous comments.

Soham posted a photo of the delivery guy and shared his story urging others to make it viral,

This guy’s sister’s wedding is in few days & @zomato @zomatocare
blocked his account! He was sobbing like anything near GTB Nagar, going to everyone and asking for some money. He told me he didn’t eat anything saving it all for her wedding

He further shared his QR code and asked people to contribute, he added,

If anyone wants to help this poor fellow please do. Though I am not sure how genuine it is but he was crying like anything. @zomato @zomatocare

A picture of the Zomato agent’s app home page indicates that his account was indeed blocked. The pop-up message on the app read, “You have been blocked. Deposit money to start getting orders”.

Some users on Reddit explained that Zomato needs its delivery partners to deposit the cash they may have collected from cash-on-delivery orders.

One user explained,

“He has not deposited the money collected COD cod order and if the value of total cash collect is rupees 1000 Zomato blocks your account until you pay it back to Zomato”

After the post went viral Zomato responded to Soham’s post

Responding to the post, Zomato promised to take action on the matter. The official Zomato account replied,

We deeply value our delivery partners, and we understand the impact that actions like blocking an ID can have. Rest assured, we take such matters seriously. We assure you, we’ll look into this. Our delivery partners are as important to us as our customers.
