Zomato Responds After Customer Receives Fried Rice Instead Of Sabudana On Maha Shivratri

Mahashivaratri fast disrupted as a customer gets wrong order via Zomato. Zomato responds sensitively, but concerns over repeated mix-ups remain.

Published: Updated: 3 minutes read

Mahashivaratri is considered one of the most sacred occasions for Hindus, a day devoted to fasting, devotion, and seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva. For many, every ritual and meal holds deep spiritual significance. In such a context, receiving a wrong food order can feel especially upsetting, as it disrupts both faith and observance.

Something similar happened when a customer ordered food through Zomato during the festival but received an incorrect order instead. Taking to social media, they expressed their disappointment, highlighting the sensitivity of the occasion. To say that Zomato responded promptly would be a sheer understatement.

Shivratri fast spoiled by wrong food delivery by Zomato, customer complaints on X

On the sacred occasion of Mahashivaratri, when devotees observe fasts and follow strict dietary rules, a disappointing incident shared online has caught attention. A user with the handle @CONGRESSLOVEBJP took to X on February 15 to narrate their unpleasant experience, leaving many shocked. Expressing frustration, the user wrote,

“Today’s my Shivratri fast and i ordered sabudana from @zomato @zomatocare and they send me fried rice how @zomatocare playing with religious view”

The tweet highlighted how a simple food mix-up felt deeply insensitive on such an auspicious day.

In a follow up tweet the customer further wrote,

Here is order id-: 7800353788 attaching image what i received when you mentioned that particular item for fasting only and i ordered it because of shivratri fast how @zomato @zomatocare you Play with religious view on such occasions”

Fried Rice instead of sabudana

For those observing the fast, food isn’t just about hunger but faith and discipline. Sabudana dishes are commonly consumed during vrat, while regular items like fried rice are strictly avoided. This is why the error didn’t just come across as a minor inconvenience but something that disrupted a devotee’s religious practice.

Reacting to the complaint, Zomato Care responded to the tweet, acknowledging the issue and offering assistance to resolve it.

Zomato responds in a sensitive manner

Zomato chose to respond in a calm and empathetic manner, focusing on resolving the concern rather than debating it.

Their response reflected this approach clearly. The team replied,

“This is concerning, and we’re here to help. Please DM us your order ID, so we can look into this further.”

Following this, the customer shared the photographic evidence and shared further details to which Zomato added,

“Thank you for sharing the details with us. We will have this checked, and get back to you with an update.”

These replies showed that the brand prioritised listening and taking action, rather than dismissing the complaint. In situations tied to faith and personal beliefs, such a measured tone can go a long way in maintaining trust.

However, regardless of the sensitive response, one cannot ignore that such order mix-ups are not entirely new. Incidents of wrong deliveries have surfaced time and again, raising concerns about quality checks and accountability. There is a need for stricter vigilance not just from the platform but also from restaurant partners to ensure that customers receive exactly what they order.
