Zomato CEO Responds After Twitter User Said ‘₹2 Crore Mujhse Le Leta Bhai’ As Company Turns Profitable

Everyone knows the renowned food delivery company, Zomato which is also an Indian multinational restaurant aggregator. Zomato was founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah. The company has been active for years but India’s Zomato reported its first quarterly profit on 3rd August. The profit is due to strong orders on its food delivery and quick commerce platforms and a tax gain.

The news prompted a flood of memes on social media. The food tech company has posted a profit for the first time. The CEO Deepinder Goyal had to go through some trolling after announcing the Rs 2 crore profit.

Recently, Zomato reported revenues of Rs 2,416 crore and announced a profit of Rs 2 crore. Zomato also runs the grocery delivery service Blinkit. In the first quarter, the said consolidated revenue from operations rose 70.9% to 24.16 billion rupees.

A Twitter user Veerendra Hegde addressed Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal and took a dig at Zomato’s profit

He tweeted,

“On lighter note: 2 core mujse le leta bhai, etna ghar ghar jaake khana deliver karne ki kya zaroorat thi (On a lighter note: You could have borrowed Rs 2 crore from me. What was the need to go from house to house delivering orders?)”

The CEO of Zomato took the dig sportingly and responded to it humorously

Responding to the tweet, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal wrote,

“Tweet of the day. ROFL!”

Among trolls, the company was also praised and received several congratulatory messages for turning a profit. Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Paytm CEO congratulated the teams of Zomato and Blinkit for their outstanding efforts. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronic and IT, called Zomato a bright beacon for all investors and startups.

Zomato CEO, Deepinder Goyal also stated in a letter to shareholders that the company has been working hard to make its business less complex. They made sure to put the right people in the right spots within their businesses. He also stated that in the month of May, the company was confident that in the next four quarters, it will achieve profitability for the entire business.

For the quarter that ended on June 30, the company reported a profit of 20 million rupees ($241,861.37). According to Refinitiv IBES data that beat analyst’s average estimate of 22.86 billion rupees.
