Travelling alone as a woman in India can be frightening at times, and this incident stands as a stark reminder of that reality. At Katihar Junction in Bihar, a massive commotion broke out inside a train compartment, forcing a female passenger to lock herself inside the washroom to protect herself. With no immediate help in sight, fear replaced any sense of security. The woman later shared a video of the chaos, which has since gone viral, reigniting concerns over women’s safety while travelling by train.

A routine train journey turned into a terrifying experience for a woman travelling alone when chaos erupted inside the Jaynagar–Manihari Janki Express at Katihar Junction in Bihar. Later, she took to social media platform X to share a video of the ordeal and penned a detailed caption describing what she went through. In her post, the woman wrote,
“Today I understood why safety concerns during travel feel so real. I was travelling alone and my train stopped at Katihar Junction (Bihar). Suddenly 30–40 young men rushed into the coach, shouting and pushing each other.”
The sudden influx of men created panic inside the compartment, leaving passengers confused and fearful, especially those travelling alone.
Describing her helpless situation, she added,
“I was in the washroom and couldn’t even step out—people were packed at the door.”
With no clear way to escape the chaos, the woman decided to shut the washroom door again and seek help. She wrote,
“I closed it again, called Railway Helpline (139), and thankfully the RPF arrived,”
By writing so, she highlighted the crucial role played by timely intervention. The woman further concluded her post by saying,
“They cleared the way and helped me get back to my seat safely. Extremely scary experience.”
Her video and words quickly went viral, triggering widespread reaction.

Did any one misbehaved with you? And the answer is screaming NO. As there was exam and obviously there would be rush as aspirants have boarded the train. Dont’ blame Bihar for this. It happens everywhere when there are exams, including your Uttar Pradesh.

Women safety in India is joke, especially in north India. Worst of all is trains are onboarded with non ticket holders and cause problems to others.

I didn’t even know which state until people from only one particular state started feeling offended. People are really weird.

I understand your concern, and feel that Bihar’s civic sense is among the lowest !
I may sound blunt, but it’s a fact. People often come across as unnecessarily loud, uncouth, noisy, and aggressive. This isn’t prejudice but unfortunately a harsh reality
