Morocco destroyed Cristiano Ronaldo’s hopes of lifting the FIFA World Cup championship by trashing his team, Portugal, in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Despite entering the game with his team trailing by one goal in the second half, the 37-year-old who started the quarterfinals game on the bench couldn’t make a difference.
The all-time greatest goal scorer in football has had a challenging year. First, his newborn son passed away. Then he had some issues with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Finally, he became Portugal’s backup for their matches in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. All we can say is that everything has gone wrong with him this year.

Everyone was in shock and grief when he was seen leaving the field while sobbing uncontrollably, and a video of him crying quickly went viral on social media.
However, one thing that has become a hot topic of discussion on various social media platforms is whether he is going to take early retirement or has other plans.
It’s because he himself gave a hint that he may give up playing for Portugal after the end of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Taking to social media platforms, Ronaldo wrote that his dream of winning the World Cup for his country ended with this defeat.
While Ronaldo has not explicitly stated if he would play for Portugal again, he has left the matter up to speculation.

Virat Kohli pays tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo
Soon after, one of Ronaldo’s biggest fans, India’s star cricketer Virat Kohli, poured his heart out in a touching tribute to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Taking to Twitter, he wrote,
“No trophy or any title can take anything away from what you’ve done in this sport and for sports fans around the world. No title can explain the impact you’ve had on people and what I and so many around the world feel when we watch you play. That’s a gift from god.”

In Portugal’s last two FIFA World Cup games, a Round of 16 encounters against Switzerland and a Quarterfinal match against Morocco, Ronaldo didn’t even allow to start for his country.
Numerous Ronaldo supporters and his partner Georgina criticized Portugal coach Fernando Santos for benching the player twice in crucial matches at the FIFA World Cup 2022, despite the fact that Ronaldo is the top goal scorer in both international and national football, with the most international caps for Portugal.

He has now surrendered to “time,” trusting it to be a “good counselor,” in hopes that it will decide his fate.
