Mumbai Police Responds After Vineeta Singh Shares Fake News Of Her Death And Arrest

Vineeta Singh is a prominent Indian entrepreneur, best known as the CEO and co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics. However, she is not just a regular entrepreneur. But also, today, she has gained celebrity-like status in the Indian start-up ecosystem. Singh has had a big influence on the cosmetics industry by providing products that are suited for Indian consumers and ladies with a range of skin tones.

After graduating from IIT Madras with a degree in electrical engineering and her MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, she launched her first firm, Quetzal, in 2007. Her most memorable stint on TV was with Shark Tank India, which skyrocketed her popularity. However, like many other celebrities, Vineeta also faced a lot of trolling on social media. Sometimes, she also becomes a victim of scary rumors. Recently, she called out some of these rumors.

On Saturday, she responded to the untrue statements that had been going about for weeks on social media. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Vineeta Singh shared a screenshot of news in which she said that she died. The news headline read, “A hard day for India: We say goodbye to Vineeta Singh.”

She denied the allegations, pointing out that for the last five weeks, false stories of this kind had been going around. The rumors have stuck around despite her attempts to stop them from spreading. She also reported this matter to Meta, the Mumbai Cyber Police, and registered a complaint with the Mumbai Crime Branch.

In her tweet, Vineeta Singh wrote,

“Been dealing with paid PR about my death & my arrest for 5 weeks. Ignored it at first, then reported to @Meta several times, filed @Mum_CyberPolice complaint but it’s not stopping. The hardest part is when folks panic & call my mom. Any suggestions?”

She emphasized how frustrated she was with the circumstances, particularly when someone contacted her relatives to confirm the untrue information. She asked online users for advice on how to deal with the continuous disinformation campaign. Many social media users voiced worry in response to Singh’s claim and urged the authorities to act quickly to stop the dissemination of false information.

Mumbai police reacted to fake rumors revolving around Vineeta Singh

Amid hoop-a-loop around the matter, Mumbai Police has also responded to Vineeta’s claims. In their reply to Vineeta Singh’s above-mentioned tweet, they asked her for more details so that they could help her better. They replied,

“Ma’am, request you to DM us the details, for us to help you better.”

Responding to Mumbai Police’s tweet, Vineeta thanked them for their constant support.
