Varma has a remarkable knack for bringing life to these parts, making them memorable and accessible to audiences, whether he’s playing wounded people, ethically questionable personalities, or sad anti-heroes.

However, what makes him unique is his openness to praising other movies, in contrast to some other self-centered actors. Now enjoying the success of recent films like Kaalkoot and Lust Tales 2, Vijay Varma continues to be openly supportive of the wider cinema industry.

In one recent incident, he spoke up in support of the Irrfan Khan movie Lunchbox when someone tried to troll it.

A ‘X’, Handle (formerly Twitter) shared list of 10 flop movies

Recently, a social media trend saying “A flop film that I secretly loved” has generated a lot of conversation on social media. Amid the current trend of cinephiles expressing their favorite films that regrettably bombed at the box office, a user by the name of The Cineprism on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) made a list of “10 flop movies that I secretly loved.” To everyone’s surprise, it included the well-regarded movie The Lunchbox.

Vijay Varma responded to a netizen who said Lunchbox is a “flop film.”

Needless to say, this fact irks actor Vijay Varma. As a result, he has openly come up to defend the movie. In response to The Cineprism’s post, Varma said,

“The lunchbox is the biggest independent film from India. It did incredible business and is considered a global masterpiece. Not a flop in any parameter.”

In support of his claim, Vijay Varma posted a picture showing The Lunchbox’s impressive box office haul of Rs. 110 crore. This huge collection underscores its success. The movie had an incredible run, earning 7 crores in its first weekend of release in India and an astonishing Rs. 11 crores in its first week. It continued to be profitable, earning more than Rs. 20 crore in the first three weeks and even an estimated Rs. 40–50 lakh throughout the course of the fourth weekend.

Lunchbox’s success transcends borders

Lunchbox is the 2013 emotional drama directed by Ritesh Batra that won audiences over with its moving story. The movie starred Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Its praise was global since “The Lunchbox” was enthusiastically received at foreign film festivals. In 2013, it was a part of prominent occasions, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. It even received a BAFTA nomination for Best Film Not in the English Language, which further attested to its superiority.

Beyond praise, the movie’s attraction translated into enormous popularity abroad. In a number of foreign markets, including Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, and Norway, The Lunchbox proudly claims the title of the highest-grossing Indian movie. This widespread appeal testifies to the film’s enduring emotional appeal and excellent crafting.
