Complaints are often raised about Uber and Ola drivers for charging extra or for their misbehavior with passengers. Recently, one such incident occurred when a man from Delhi questioned the safety concerns of Uber India and the overcharging issues of the driver. He took to the social media platform X (Previously Twitter) and shared his wife’s plight who was the passenger in distress, demanding accountability for the driver’s actions.
An X user, Gajender Yadav asserted the driver’s behaviour was “absolutely nonsense”
Yadav accused the driver of attempting to overcharge his wife and criticized Uber for not responding to her SOS calls during the incident. In Delhi, Yadav’s wife took an Uber ride, and after driving for just 1 km, the driver demanded an additional Rs 200. The woman pressed the SOS button twice, but Uber did not follow up or take any action to address the situation.

In a post on X, Yadav identified the cab driver and wrote,
“If you are in Delhi….don’t take ride with KARAN….car number DL1RTB4168”.
“Absolutely nonsense behavior from @Uber_Support @Uber_India cab driver. After driving for 1 km….cab driver started asking for Rs 200 extra. My wife even pressed SOS button for help from Uber 2 fix this matter. It’s been 2 days and not a single person from Uber care to know exactly why SOS was pressed. No follow up. That’s the condition of UBER INDIA”
He also shared a screenshot of the details of the accused Uber driver.

Uber’s response to the situation was not well received by Yadav
Uber’s reply asking for confirmation of the cash paid to the driver annoyed Yadav further. He emphasized that the matter was not about the money but about the safety concerns of passengers.
It’s not about F******** money. It’s about SAFETY OF PASSENGER.
Bunch of idiots sitting in customer service.

In a following post, he mentioned that Uber had refunded the money but questioned the lack of understanding when it came to the safety concerns of the passengers. He wrote,

Why it is so difficult 2 understand the PROBLEM IS SAFETY OF PASSENGER. WHY THE HELL SOS BUTTON WAS NOT WORKING. WHAT ACTION HAVE TO TAKEN ON UBER DRIVER.
HOW CAN YOUR DRIVER ASK A LADY PASSENGER TO STEP OUT OF THE CAB IN MIDDLE OF THE ONGOING RIDE???
@UberIN_Support @Uber_India @Uber refunding the money 🤦🤦

He also added,
@Uber @Uber_India @UberIN_Support maintaining pin drop silence on SOS blunder. Neither they care about the incidence and nor contacted us to know what exactly went wrong.
Look like their cab drivers are running the company.

@Uber_India @UberIN_Support @Uber
Uber is a prime example of MONOPOLY in the market. Since passengers don’t have any alternatives….they have 2 ride Uber compromising on many parameters including safety.— Gajender Yadav (@imYadav31) April 22, 2024

After this, Yadav shared an update regarding the complaint about the SOS button present inside Uber cabs. He said,
“On SOS thing Uber says that’s the third party thing and not done by Uber”

Yadav highlighted a safety helpline number that connects passengers with Uber’s Safety Department during emergencies. He encouraged others to prioritize their safety when traveling with Uber and shared his good experience with the safety helpline number as it connected him with assistance in under a minute.
He mentioned that he got a call from the company “after this thread went viral”. In an update, he affirmed that Uber had terminated the accused driver’s Uber account. Uber also assured over the call that the driver’s cab would no longer be available on the platform. He also expressed thankfulness for the support received from people on X.

Passengers are helpless to be frank.. we are left with no other options. ola is no clean either.
There is no real solution (yet) imo— Aejeaya (@sync2nirvana) April 22, 2024
It’s been long since I have stopped using Uber Ola for important travel plans. Better to have a local cab driver contact, even if you pay them 200-300 extra, you will have peace of mind.

I was told by a Uber driver that the sos button is only for show and it does not work… He even pressed it two times in front of me and nothing happened
— Share Market™ Waale (@ShareMarket008) April 22, 2024
@Uber is not what it used to be, the drivers are ruling the roost & the unions are partly to blame. Unless they up their game, only matter of time some other premium app will take over the baton. Man up @UberIN_Support stick to your SLA & STOP capitulating to the errant drivers.

I faced the same couple of years back
They simply refund and not do anything..while the driver will say jo ukhadna h ukhad lo.. chaiye to gar ka address b dedu.

Are the SOS buttons there only for show? Woman safety is a joke to you guys??— Cards Wizard (@cards_wizard) April 22, 2024
These kind of issues are regular with @Uber @Olacabs.
Hardly any compliance.. Never tried it but hardly surprised that SOS Button is just for showoff.
For this extra money, People do complain and take back their extra money but instead of taking action, they let these errant…
— Bachat Xpert (@BachatXpert) April 22, 2024
So the SOS button will be if no use when it’s an actual emergency 🆘
