India witnessed its 77th Independence Day yesterday on the 15th of August 2023 and needless to say celebrations took place all across the country. You will come across various families and schools hoisting the National flag on this occasion. It is very well known that there are certain rules and regulations that you need to abide by while hoisting the national flag. Ignoring this can lead to various criticisms and unforeseen circumstances.
Recently Shilpa Shetty was trolled on social media for apparently not abiding by the rules while hoisting the Indian flag with her family.

Shilpa Shetty trolled by netizens trolled for hoisting Tricolour with shoes on
The actress took to Instagram to share a video of her family hoisting the National flag on Independence Day and many users slammed her for not following the rules of flag hoisting.
On Tuesday morning Shilpa posted a video from her residence, where she is seen hoisting the Tricolour along with her family. The caption read,

However, one internet user sparked a fire by commenting that she should take off her shoes while unfurling the Tricolour. Soon enough several other users followed suit and started asking her to get educated on her flag hoisting rules before posting such videos.
The user wrote,

“When you’re hoisting the National Flag, I urge you to touch the rope of the flag only after removing your footwear.”
Shilpa Shetty hit back at the trolls
The actress didn’t sit quietly and jibed back at the trolls. She commented on her post saying that she is completely aware of the rules of conduct that the users are pointing out and they should get their facts straight before shaming someone.
The comment read,
“I am aware of the ‘Rules’ of conduct while hoisting the flag ,the RESPECT for my country and THE FLAG stems from my heart and not up for questioning . I am a proud Indian . Today’s post was to share and celebrate that emotion. To all the trollers (that I ignore usually) DO NOT appreciate YOU airing your ignorance and spreading negativity on this Day . So get your facts rights and please BACK OFF”

She also attached a screenshot on her Instagram stories which showed the result of a Google search which was regarding whether you can hoist the Indian Flag while wearing your shoes. The response to that was that the Flag Code of India does not restrict the hoisting of the national flag with shoes on. She added the hashtag #Facts and a tricolour emoji while posting the story.
Shilpa Shetty will be next seen in Rohit Shetty’s cop web series called the Indian Police Force which will premiere on the OTT platform of Prime Video India.
