Rohit Sharma Shares For The First Time How He Felt About India Losing The World Cup 2023

With a great bang, the second edition of The Great Indian Kapil Show has commenced. This new avatar of India’s most popular comedic show is exclusively airing on the OTT platform, Netflix. However, what is the most exciting thing is that Sunil Grover is finally making his comeback in the show as he joined hands with Kapil. In the second episode, Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer graced the show with their presence.

On The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rohit Sharma was asked about the World Cup 2023 finale

The Great Indian Kapil Show is well-known for its wit and humor. However, in its second episode which premiered on 7th April 2024, its guests were confronted with a topic that is sensitive for all cricket fanatics. Yes, we are talking about the World Cup 2023 finale.

During the show, Kapil Sharma remarked on how well the Indian team had performed throughout the World Cup, only to see victory slip away in the final match. India reached the finale after winning 10 consecutive matches. Every cricket lover had huge hopes that the trophy is going to be ours. However, sadly, India lost the match, breaking the hopes of many. Rohit Sharma, who graced The Great Indian Kapil Show was asked how he felt afterwards but he found it challenging to convey his emotions verbally.

Rohit recounted by saying,

“Yeh kehna bada muskil he kyuki match ke pehle hum do din Ahmedabad mein the, hum practice kiye. Ek achcha momentum team ka bana hua tha. Bolte hain jaise ki autopilot mein team chal rahi thi. (It is difficult to say because the days leading up to the final match were spent practicing in Ahmedabad, where the team had built a strong momentum, almost as if they were operating on autopilot.”

Rohit Sharma further added, ‘When the finale match started…”

Continuing his reflection, Rohit described the start of the final match positively, noting a solid beginning despite an early setback. He said,

“Jab final match start hua… humne shuruat achchi ki. I think Shubman Gill jaldi out ho gaya tha. But uske baad Virat [Kohli] aur mera thoda saa ek partnership ho gaya tha. Toh confidence tha ki hum achcha score khada kar sakenge. Par final mein jab ap khelte ho, bade matches mein… run laga doge board pe toh samne waalo ke upar pressure hogi. Chahe ho 100 run kyu na ho! Kyuki unko banana he woh run. Aur pressure mein koi bhi team fisal sakti hein! But unhone achcha cricket khela, Australia ne… unka bada partnership bhi ho agya tha. (When the match started we had a solid beginning despite an early setback with Shubman Gill’s dismissal. Later, Virat Kohli and I had a good partnership. So we were confident that we would do well. But in these big matches, there is always pressure. Even if that board says 100 runs. Because they know they have to score. And in that pressure, any team can slip. But the Australian team played well and had a good partnership).

He acknowledged Australia’s strong performance and the impact of their significant partnership, recognizing the challenges they posed under the intense pressure of the final match.

Rohit also shared how surprised he was by the Indian fans’ reaction to the loss of WC 2023

Rohit shared these observations after actor During the episode Archana Puran Singh reassured Rohit that, despite not lifting the trophy, the Indian team had captured the hearts of the nation.

To this, Rohit shared that post the defeat he did not expect fans to react all lovingly. He shared how surprised he was with the unexpected reaction from fans following India’s loss in the final. As the captain of the team, he had anticipated a wave of disappointment and hostility from the cricket-crazy nation. However, to his astonishment, every fan acknowledged the team’s efforts throughout the tournament.

All this culminated in the audience of The Great Indian Kapil Show chanting “We’re proud of you,” showcasing their unwavering pride and admiration for the team’s performance.

IPL 2024 is also going on and it is saddening to say that Rohit Sharma is not the captain of MI anymore. What is a lot more saddening is that MI stands at the bottom because they have lost all three matches played so far.

On the flip side, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of KKR has shown an impeccable performance which led to the team’s victory in all three matches played.
