Ravindra Jadeja reply Kapil Dev

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev is known for his bold opinions on matters related to the game of cricket and its players. The 1983 World Cup-winning India captain isn’t very happy with the way the Indian cricket team has transformed over the years.

Kapil Dev called Indian players ‘arrogant’

In his latest interview with The Week, Kapil Dev talked about the issue of ‘money’ and ‘ego’ in the current Indian players. Dev slammed the current Indian players and called them arrogant.

Responding to an old remark from his former teammate Sunil Gavaskar, where he claimed that current Indian players have never called him up for help despite going through rough patches in their career unlike players like Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman and even Sachin Tendulkar, who used to call him and seek help.

Kapil Dev suggested that the money that came by playing in the Indian Premier League has brought a sense of arrogance in the players. He had said:

“Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won’t hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from”

Ravindra Jadeja quashed all the allegations made by Kapil and cleared that there is no arrogance in the Indian cricket team. While speaking to the reporters, ahead of the third and final ODI match against West Indies,  Jadeja said:

“I don’t know when he has said this. I don’t search these things on social media. See everyone has their own opinion. Ex-player have full right to share their opinion, but I don’t think there is any arrogance in this team,”

Further, Jadeja said that such remarks often come when team India incurs a loss. He also highlighted how every Indian player takes pride in representing the country at the highest level. He said:

“Everyone is enjoying their cricket and everyone are hardworking. No one has taken anything for granted. They are giving their 100 per cent. Such comments generally come when Indian team lost a match. This is a good bunch of boys, this is a good group. We are representing India and that is our main aim, there is no personal agenda,”
