There have been more than 5,000 complaints on IRCTC related to the quality of food in trains in the past seven months. Minister of Railways of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw said this on Wednesday. He stated,

“It is the continuous endeavour of Indian Railways to provide good quality and hygienic food to passengers as per norms and standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)”

He also informed us that from September 2019 the ‘Optional Catering Service’ will be effective in all premium trains including Rajdhani, Duronto, Shatabdi, Gatiman, Tejas, and Vande Bharat.

He also added,

“In this scheme, passengers are being provided with the option, at the time of booking tickets, to opt out of the pre-paid catering facilities being provided in these trains”

Let’s hope the Indian Railways take care of the matter and the situation improves. The railways should take hygiene seriously as they are also responsible for the health of their passengers.
