Rahul Dravid Responds To Allan Donald's Apology Over An 'UGLY' Old Incident

Allan Donald is a former fast bowler who everyone dreaded. His pace was unmatched but he was also known for the occasional tantrums he used to give to the batters. During an India vs South Africa ODI in Durban back in 1997, an incident took place that involved Donald and the former Indian captain and current head coach Rahul Dravid. Rahul Dravid was a victim of Donald’s temper 25 years back.

During India’s tour of Bangladesh, the coaches of both teams went back the memory lane and had a throwback exchange.

Bangladesh’s bowling coach Allan Donald issued an apology to the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid for the incident during a tri-nation series match in 1997

Donald described the incident as an ugly one and stated that he wants to say sorry to Rahul Dravid for the same and also invited him to dinner. In an interview on Sony Sports Network, the Bangladesh bowling coach said,

“There was one ugly incident in Durban when I talk about. Dravid and Sachin were smoking us to all parts. I overstepped the mark a little bit. I’ve just nothing but massive respect for Rahul Dravid. I would love to sit with Rahul and go out for a dinner and say sorry to him again about what happened that day. I just had to do something silly that brought his wicket actually. But I still apologise for what I said that day. What a great guy, what a great bloke. So Rahul, if you are listening, I would love to have a night out with you”

“Absolutely Yes. I am looking forward to it, especially if he is paying”

Allegedly the Indian coach also said that there is no need to apologize for the incident as such things are ‘part and parcel’ of the game.
