Passenger Complains About Train Food

Passengers taking to social media to complain about bland food, dirty bathrooms, and erratic fellow passengers on Indian trains is nothing new. One can always state their grievances and tag the official account of RailwaySeva on Twitter for immediate response. Recently, a woman tagged the official account of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd to put forward her displeasure regarding the poor quality of food during her recent journey that she was provided with.

Tasteless food provided by IRCTC

Recently, a netizen named Bhumika (@thisisbhumika) on Twitter tweeted a photo of her half-eaten meal on the train she was traveling. The plate had dal, rice, and sabzi on it. She was extremely disappointed with the poor quality of the food. Further, she also added that with the ever-increasing train fares, the quality of food served on the trains didn’t improve.

She wrote,

”Have you ever tasted your own food @IRCTCofficial? Will you ever give such bad quality and taste to your own family and children? It tastes like food for prisoners. The ticket prices are increasing day by day but you are providing the same bad quality food to your customers”

Railway Seva responded to the tweet

As usual, the official account of Railway Seva on Twitter immediately responded to her complaint. However, they ended up addressing the woman as ‘Sir’ which has led to a barrage of jokes on social media.

The complaint tweet has received a fair amount of responses from people commenting on the general quality of the food provided by the Indian Railways. One tweeted that such public tweets damage the image of the country. Next, some commented that she should bring home-cooked meals for her next train journey if the food provided on the trains irks her so much.

”The food is as pathetic as their services, the app is supreme quality bad, the website is a nightmare, charges are massive and the quality is degrading, so bad”

Another Twitter user defended the Railways and wrote,

”So far, I have found @IRCTCofficial food palatable and of good quality. Pls don’t expect 5-star quality for the amount you pay that’s still subsidized by the government. Attention seeking!”
