Munawar Faruqui is one of the most popular stand-up comedian artists in the country. However, more than his comedy, Faruqui is known for his controversies because of which he even had to spend 37 days in jail.

Yes, Faruqui became a controversial figure in the country after his jokes on religion and digs at the current ruling party didn’t go down well with many. His jokes created an outrage in the public eye. He recently participated in the reality show Lock Upp to share his side of the story with the world. Not just he became a household name but he also won the show with the flying colors.

Meanwhile, recently, in an interview with ETimes, Munawar opened up about his time in the jail. He expressed how he would not want his arch-rival to experience what he did in the jail. He said:

“When I was going inside, that moment was when I was mentally disturbed and I felt everything around me. I was unable to think what was happening. I was feeling all emotions at once, I was restless. Jail is the hell where you go alive. I wouldn’t even want to send my arch-enemy to this hell.”

Munawar revealed he used to get beaten up in the jail for random reasons

Speaking about the same the stand-up comedian revealed:

“That boy once told me, ‘I wish I would have let him kill me rather than coming to jail.’ He felt this jail was the living hell that he was experiencing before death. They didn’t have any aggression. There were fights but the fear was that you would get beaten. I also got beaten. It is the jail’s ‘Prashad’, it’s not allowed but they beat you for random reasons.”

Notably, Munawar Faruqui was only 16-years-old when he moved to Mumbai after his home was destroyed during the 2002’s Gujarat riots. His background was never of a rich guy. Faruqui revealed how he even had to take money from people for his father’s last rites in 2020. He shared:

“I had to take my father’s mortal remains to my village in an ambulance for which I borrowed Rs 30,000 from someone for the last rites.”

Recently, in a conversation with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Munawar got emotional as he talked about how he lived his life without his mother. He expressed how he missed his mother every day. He shared:

“I still feel the same pain from the past 16 years of my mother’s demise. It still hits me and in fact, the pain keeps increasing with each passing day. I cannot say that one year was difficult for me, all these years have been difficult for me and it keeps increasing and I want them with me but they are not there. There is no solution to losing a mother.”
