Mohammed Shami Blasts Sanjay Manjrekar With His Reply After IPL Auction Bid Prediction

The IPL auction 2025 is going to commence on November 24 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There have been many speculations about which player will be added to which team and also the estimated price that the players will be sold at. This mega auction is highly anticipated in the cricket fraternity. A recent incident regarding the same made headlines when Sanjay Manjrekar predicted the fate of Star India pacer Mohammed Shami.

Mohammed Shami was released by Gujarat Titans last month and is set for the IPL 2025 mega auction. At the previous mega auction ahead of IPL 2022, Shami was roped in by Gujarat Titans for INR 6.25 Crore. In his first season with the franchise, the Bengal pacer took 20 wickets from 16 matches. In 2023, he gave his best performance when he bagged 28 wickets from 17 games at 18.64 and also won the Purple Cap.

Sanjay Manjrekar recently predicted that Shami will suffer a substantial dip in his price tag at the IPL auction

In the much-awaited event, Manjrekar predicted that the injury-prone pacer is likely to suffer a substantial price drop as the cricketer just came back to competitive cricket following a prolonged injury layoff. According to Majrekar, the teams may be concerned about his breakdown and will have doubts about him lasting the entire season after recovering from his recent knee injury.

Manjrekar said on Star Sports,

“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag”

Shami hits back at Manjrekar’s bold prediction

The 34-year-old did not take this prediction from the former India cricketer lightly. He took to his Instagram story and shot back at him. Shami sarcastically told people to meet Manjrekar and ask about their future.

Shami wrote in his Instagram story,

“Baba ki jay hoooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam aayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile (Hail Baba. Save some knowledge for your future too, it will be useful Sanjay ji? If anyone wants to know the future, then meet sir)”

Shami had a stellar comeback

After a year-long injury hiatus, Shami impressed everyone in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, where he picked up 7 wickets in a single match. He is also a member of the Bengal squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2024, which indicates he is fit for international cricket.

Shami is among the 12 marquee players who will feature in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
