British anchor asked India to return 2.3 billion

The success of ISRO‘s Chandrayaan 3 mission has been praised worldwide. India made history by becoming the first country to land on the south pole of the lunar surface. But it seems that few people are more focused on slamming the country by pointing out its so-called weaknesses than applauding the country’s spectacular achievement. A British anchor recently quoted that a country that can afford to go to the Moon does not need foreign aid insisting India to return the foreign aid provided by Britain.

Recently a British anchor took to the microblogging platform X (Twitter) and targeted the country by asking them to return the £2.3 billion foreign aid

A presenter for GB News, Patrick Christys took to Twitter and while congratulating the country he also added that India should return the foreign aid they received from Britain during the span of 2016 and 2021. The British news presenter said,

“I would like to congratulate India for landing on the dark side of the Moon. I would also like to now invite India to return the £2.3 billion of foreign aid money that we sent them between 2016 and 2021. We are also set to give them £57 million pounds next year and I think the British taxpayer should keep hold of that, don’t you? We should not be giving money to countries with a space programme. As a rule, if you can afford to fire a rocket to the dark side of the Moon, you shouldn’t be coming to us with your hand out.”

The British anchor did not stop there, he even cited the UN to express that India has the highest number of poor people in the world but has an annual GDP of around $3.75 trillion having the 5th largest economy. He asked,

“Why are we paying to help poverty-stricken Indians when their own government won’t bother?”

The figure of £2.3 billion quoted by the anchor is from a report by the Independent Commission for Aid Impact. It is the watchdog that monitors UK aid spending. A report said,

“All told, we calculate that around £2.3 billion in UK aid went to India between 2016 and 2021, including £441 million in bilateral aid, £129 million in investments via FCDO in Indian enterprises which generate returns, £749 through multilateral channels, and £1 billion in investments through BII.”

His cryptic comments on India enraged the Indian citizens and netizens slammed the British anchor by demanding the Kohinoor back and the estimated amount of money taken out of India during the British colonial rule

Netizens criticized the British anchor who asked India to return the £2.3 billion provided by Britain as foreign aid between 2016 and 2021 as Indian Twitter users did not take it well. They responded to the demand of the anchor by asking for the Kohinoor back that was stolen by the British during their colonial rule in India.

Netizens also demanded $45 trillion which is the estimated amount to have been taken out of India during the colonial rule.
