Coronavirus Outbreak: Needy Hindus Denied Food And Essential Supplies In Karachi Pakistan

As per the latest reports coming in from Pakistan, needy people belonging to the Hindu community have been denied food by the authorities in the Sindh province of the country.

The Coronavirus outbreak has made its massive presence felt in the neighboring country of Pakistan too. With the number of cases rising steeply, the economically vulnerable sections of the society are facing trouble there too.

Thousands of poor people gathered at Rehrri Ghoth in Karachi to receive food supplies and daily essentials. However, those who belong to the Hindu community were told to go back since the rations were only meant for Muslims.

Hindus denied food in Pakistan amid Coronavirus outbreak

While the government had made arrangements to provide food to the needy, the latest developments show that the minorities are in deep concern. Yesterday, many had gathered in the Rehrri Ghoth in Karachi to receive essential supplies from the government.

The government was supplying the ration to the people through an NGO. The arrangement was mainly made, keeping in mind the condition of the daily-wage laborers and workers. However, the Hindus were asked to go back, as they were told that the ration was meant only for the Muslims. Apart from Karachi, the same has been repeated in other areas such as Lyari and Sachal Ghoth.

Activists call for the Indian Government’s intervention

Dr Amjad Ayub Mirza, a political activist has warned that the minorities are now faced with a serious food crisis and asked the Indian government to send supplies via Rajasthan to Sindh. He appealed to PM Modi to intervene without delay to avert a humanitarian crisis in Sindh. There are more than half a million Hindus living in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
