Harsh Goenka Kohinoor Rishi Sunak

This year, Indians received two “ultimate Diwali presents,” both in India and among the diaspora, which is dispersed around the world.

While the first is fairly obvious—the Indian cricket team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly anticipated T20 world cup match—other news caught everyone off guard when Rishi Sunak was elected as the new British Prime Minister, succeeding outgoing PM Liz Truss.

Politically and culturally, Sunak’s triumph represents a turning point, not only in the United Kingdom’s history but also marked as a watershed moment for all Asians and non-white people. To add a cherry on top of all this, the 42-year-old is also the first British Prime Minister whose roots go way back to India.

While both of his parents are of African-born Indian descent, he is also the one who is proud of his cultural roots. Apart from being of Indian descent, he also has another Indian connection and that is his wife, Akshata Murthy, who is the daughter of the well-known Indian businessman and founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy.

As a result, Sunak has successfully traversed several cultural and racial barriers at once. Indians, both those living in India and those in the diaspora, lost no time in congratulating Sunak on his triumph and referring to him as one of their own.

There are great expectations that India will gain economically from Great Britain now that a person of Indian descent is the prime minister of the United Kingdom.

However, on the other hand, others are making jokes and even plotting to return from Britain with the priceless “Kohinoor” diamond. One of the funniest ideas was provided by Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprise.

Harsh Goenka shares a funny idea to bring back Kohinoor to India

Recently, Harsh Goenka used Twitter to mock the current political unrest in Britain and the subsequent selection of Rishi Sunak as prime minister. He talked about the idea that his friend had reportedly given him to bring “Kohinoor” back to India.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote,

My friend’s idea to get back #Kohinoor:

1. Invite #RishiSunak to India

2. Kidnap him when he is stuck in Bangalore traffic to visit his in-laws

3. Send instead Ashish Nehra as UK PM. No one will realise it.

4. Nehra will be told to pass the bill to return Kohinoor

Goenka poked fun not only at UK politics in the tweet but also at the notorious traffic in Bengaluru. Apart from this, he also made reference to Rishi Sunak’s striking facial resemblance to former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra, which is currently going round on various social media platforms.

His tweet went viral within seconds and, as of now, it has got more than 34,000 likes and 1500 comments. With this tweet, he has become the talk of the town, with many people praising his sarcasm while many others are poking fun at him and calling his plan very “ridiculous” and “childish.”

Nevertheless, people, including many public personalities like Harsh Goenka, are really enjoying the meme fest that was triggered after Rishi Sunak’s appointment. And it’s actually not bad to find happiness in small things.
