Recently a controversy erupted when a woman claimed that she has been denied entry to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. This is not the first time that a thing like this has happened, a lot of times many celebrities have also been denied entry to the holy temple.

Woman was denied entry to the Golden Temple for sporting an Indian flag painted on her face

Reportedly, a woman was denied entry into the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Apparently, she was supporting a tattoo of the National Tricolour painted on her face. Apparently, it is a general practice with the visitors who get it done while going to watch the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony which is held at Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post every evening.

This was captured in a video, the issue gained momentum after the 40-second video clip went viral on social media.

The caption read,

In the video, the painted flag of India is clearly visible on her face. She was seen complaining to a man who had reportedly accompanied her, that a sewadar at the entry point had intercepted her.

A heated exchange of arguments soon followed after the man questioned the sewadar

He can be heard asking,

“Sardar jee, you stopped this gudia (she) from entering, what was the reason?”

It has been claimed that the sewadar reportedly raised an objection over the flag painted on her face.

The man further questioned him,

“Is it not India?”

To this, the sewadar said,

“No. This is Punjab”

The woman also entered into the argument saying he was talking ‘bakwaas’ as if the Golden Temple was not in India.

After this, the temper of the sewadar soared and he tried to stop them from capturing the incident on the mobile.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) responds to the video

SGPC has submitted an apology if any of its employees misbehaved with any visitor. However, SGPC general secretary, Gursharan Singh Grewal, felt that the issue was being blown out of proportion intentionally to give it a political colour.

He said,

“We are apologetic over misbehavior on the part of any of our employees towards the visitors. Taking prompt action, we have replaced him and ordered an enquiry about this incident, yet his bad behaviour should not be stretched to make it a patriotic issue and defaming the Sikh religion”
