Despite mixed reviews from reviewers, The Kashmir Files was a great box office hit. The film’s critics praised it for bringing attention to Kashmiri Hindus’ forced exodus. The plot alternates between the current day (2021) and flashbacks to 1989–1990 throughout the film.
The film The Kashmir Files is about the true story of the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir valley by hardline Islamists in 1990, as well as the following forceful migration of Kashmiri Hindus. As the title suggests, it also reminds us about the valley’s terrible militant nature. Countless Kashmiri Pandit victims were killed, while countless others were forced to evacuate their homes and transfer to other parts of India, as depicted in the film.

The Kashmir Files is the only film that has sparked national debate. For the first time in Indian cinematic history, a film has gained so much attention from the general audience while having no big actors or fresh promotion. It’s also worth mentioning that many prominent Bollywood actors have been strangely silent about the film’s unexpected success, which is still sweeping the industry and has only lately begun to gain momentum in the public realm.
On the one hand, many artists and ordinary people began publicly supporting the film; on the other hand, many people are still undecided about whether or not to support it. However, there is another group of artists and people who have publicly expressed their displeasure with the film.
Many Bollywood stars, including Kangana Ranaut, Akshay Kumar, and Yami Gautam, have praised the filmmakers for directing a moving film on Kashmiri Pandits. Swara Bhasker, on the other hand, recently took a shot at the film’s director, claiming that The Kashmir Files’ high IMDb rating is a fraud. Netizens, on the other hand, brutally mocked her for her comments.
