By capturing the gold medal at the current 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu added another prestigious allocade to her already impressive legacy in the sport of weightlifting. Chanu took home first place in the women’s 49 kg division of the competition.
Chanu set new world records in the snatch and clean and jerk events throughout the course of her spectacular triumph. Her overall lift set a new CWG record as well. She performed an impressively clean and jerk lift of 113 kg after lifting 88 kg in the snatch.

She defeated Mauritius’ Roilya Ranaivosoa, who finished in second place, by an enormous margin of 29 KGs thanks to her record-breaking 201 KG total. Hannah Kaminski of Canada, who lifted a total of 171 KG, took home the bronze medal in the competition.

Regarding Mirabai, she has won medals in the CWG for the third time in a row this time around. She won the silver medal in the women’s 48 KG division in the Glasgow competition in 2014, and she followed it up by winning the gold at the Gold Coast competition in 2018.
