Anurag Kashyap Posted A Hard-Hitting Post After The Kerala Story Was Banned In West Bengal

The Kerala Story has left the country divided into two parts. The movie, which is based on true facts, depicts women from the state joining the Islamic state, has snowballed into a big political fight. On May 8, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee banned the screening of the movie in the state.

Mamata Banerjee had recently directed the state chief secretary to remove the movie from all screens in West Bengal. She had said that the decision has been taken to maintain peace in Bengal’ and prevent violence.

The Kerala Story movie is getting criticised ever since the trailer of the movie was released. The trailed had claimed that 32,000 from the state of Kerala went missing and later joined the terrorist group ISIS.

After receiving backlash from all corners, the movie makers recently tweaked the trailer on YouTube from claiming the movie to be a story of 32,000 to that of 3 women. The trailer had earlier highlighted that the movie is based on the story of ‘32,000 Kerala women, who had allegedly been radicalized by fundamentalists.’

Anurag Kashyap pens a cryptic note after West Bengal bans The Kerala Story

Amidst all the buzz around the controversial movie, Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap shared a cryptic tweets that seemingly talked about the ban. In his Tweet, Anurag expressed that it is ‘just wrong’ to ban a film, even if it is ‘propaganda’ movie.

Reacting to the ban of The Kerala Story ban in West Bengal, Kashyap wrote:

“You agree with the film or not, be it propaganda, counter propaganda, offensive or not, to ban it is just wrong,”

Anurag urged the people to fight the propaganda in a right way. He asked the fans to watch the upcoming movie Afwaah

“You want to fight propaganda. Then go in numbers and see the film that talks against misuse of social media and how inherent prejudice is weaponised to create hatred and unrest. It’s running in cinemas and is called Afwaah. Go make your voice stronger. Go make a point. That’s the right way to fight.”

Earlier Shabana Azmi slams ban on The Kerala Story

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also took to her social media and extended her support to the controversial movie. In her Tweet, Shabana said stressed on the fact that once the movie receives a green flag from the Central Board of Film Certification. And no body has the right to ban the movie. She wrote:

 “Those who speak of banning #The Kerala Story are as wrong as those who wanted to ban Aamir Khan’s #Laal Singh Chaadha. Once a film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification nobody has the right to become an extra constitutional authority.”
