Anand Mahindra COVID Spike In China

Just when everyone thought that the pandemic was under control and Covid-19 was gone for good, the new deadly outbreak in China created havoc. China being the most populous country in the world is struggling to fight the deadly strain of the virus. Social media is flooded with pictures and videos from the massacre it created in such a limited time.

Recently a picture from a hospital in China that seems to be ‘Chongqing Medical University Hospital’ was shared by a user on Twitter.

The picture clearly depicts the poor condition of the hospital overcrowded with serious patients with no more beds to accommodate them

The caption of the post read:

“There are no more beds inside the #Chongqing Medical University Hospital, and the elderly are starting to lie on the floor. The machines that are on the chests are used to replace the human hand to press the heart,”

with hashtags such as “China Covid cases”.

Reports suggest that following the anti-lockdown protests that took over the country, China decided to end the lockdown. This sudden spike in cases happened as a result of that.

According to the news agency, AFP reports, numerous hospitals in China are overflowing with patients and the most hit patients this time are the elderly. Though the visuals of long queues in under-prepared hospitals that depend on makeshift Covid wards say otherwise. Reports suggest that China has officially logged only a “handful” of deaths.

Reacting to the picture and plight of China, business tycoon Anand Mahindra shared a tweet on Friday

He suggested that this might be a good chance to set an example and show once again how “good” India is towards its neighbors. The Mahindra chairman indicated that the vaccination in China may not be as effective so he urged the Indian biotech companies to lend a hand of support to their neighbors.

Mahindra tagged Indian biotech companies Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech in a tweet and said,

“Clearly their vaccines have not provided the necessary immunity. Can we demonstrate how to be good neighbours and @SerumInstIndia & @BharatBiotech? We currently have sufficient capacity to supply.”

China seems to be facing one of its worst crises, with a million deaths due to COVID-19 every 24 hours. The current wave of cases could rise up to 3.7 million by next month and a dreadful 4.7 million by March.

Health Ministry in China issued a new advisory for New Year and the festive season in China. They claimed that less than 3,000 cases except for foreign arrivals and zero deaths had been reported in the last 24 hours.

This figure suggests that most of the deaths are not counted. It comes in the wake of China changing its criteria for recording cases and deaths. The Chinese government has scrapped efforts to include every infection in its daily tally and also closed its mass-testing booths. The surge in Covid-19 cases has created a chaotic and tense situation all across the world.
