Man Shares Amount Multiplex Charged For Popcorn And Pepsi, Bill Goes Viral

After the Covid impact in 2020, movie-watching preferences of the public have undoubtedly shifted. With the effects of the pandemic, we witnessed a lot of lifestyle changes which stuck with us even during the post-pandemic. People heavily relied on entertainment from the comfort of their homes which has made it another one of those ‘new normal’ things. It is not surprising that catching a movie at the theaters strings along exorbitantly priced tickets along with various other additional expenses. Now if you want to enjoy the movie with snacks at a multiplex, even a regular sized popcorn and cola will burn a hole in your pocket.

Man blasts multiplex for selling overpriced snacks

Recently, a journalist, Tridip K Mandal, highlighted such an unfortunate experience at the PVR Cinemas in Mall of India, Noida. Tridip wanted to enjoy a movie with some snacks but was shocked by the prices of regular-sized cheese popcorn and Pepsi.

The man took to Twitter to share the image of the bill highlighting the hiked prices and it went viral quickly as many could relate to the sentiment.

“Rs 460 for 55gm of cheese popcorn, Rs 360 for 600ml of Pepsi. Total Rs 820 at @_PVRCinemas Noida.

That’s almost equal to annual subscription of @PrimeVideoIN.

No wonder people don’t go to cinemas anymore. Movie watching with family has just become unaffordable.”

Tridip even compared the prices with the annual subscription of Amazon Prime Video. Latest Amazon Prime Video annual standard subscription comes around Rs. 1499 in India whereas Amazon Prime Lite is Rs. 999 per year.
