Job saturation in India is no joke. Companies show large amounts of CTCs while hiring, but the in-hand salary turns out to be so minimum against our blood, sweat, and tears. When we first step into the professional world, one of the first things we think about is what we will be doing with our first salary. Unfortunately, when the paycheck finally arrives, all we can afford to buy is a tissue roll to wipe our tears away.
In India, doctors are getting paid as low as Rs 9K despite having an MBBS and doctorate degree. Institutes are offering only Rs 10K to full-time video editors having 5 years of experience under their wings, imagine the paycheck of a fresher. The fact that we earn peanuts for our efforts is legit and true.

Recently, a woman on Twitter vented out her frustration regarding her fresher salary
A woman took to Twitter to vent out her frustration that having a Rs 50K salary per month is not enough for her to survive in a metro city. Apparently, it leads to no savings. Instead of finding people sympathizing with her, she got a reality check of how low freshers get paid in India.
The tweet read,
“Why are fresher salaries so low? How is someone supposed to survive on it in a metro city? With 50k a month you’ll barely have any savings. Not everyone can take money from their families!”

Here is how netizens reacted to her post
I too cannot relate, When I came to Bangalore my salary was 20k. 5k rent (10k total shared with a friend) & 5k for food. 2k for other expenses, still saved 8k. If you wish to live you can sure live . I thinks its in the mindset. Didn’t mean to offend you, just wanted to share.😄

This lady needs to refresh her knowledge and control her greed.
Most freshers are paid less than 20K/month. They would be in 7th heaven if offered 50K/month, which is a salary of less than 5% of graduate freshers.
Even 5 yr experienced, married people dont get 50K/month.

Also, which freshers are getting 50K salaries? It’s even lesser. I’m assuming IT/software engineer here

You can’t survive on 50K??? Seriously???
— Abhay (@abhaysrivastavv) April 26, 2023
50k is not fresher salary. If you’re getting that congrats. You’re in top 10% of the country if you make 1L a month.
People survive on 15k also – lifestyles change.
My first job was 28k – in a Tier 1 city – I lived and had fun.
If you want to live in a place where rent is 30k…

50k is not less for freshers if you say so. But if a fresher acts like Ambani’s daughter or son then definitely even 50L is less.

There are literally people out there in hundreds of professions earning less than 50k a month and feeding their family with more than 10 years of experience. Which world are you living in bahan where 50k isn’t sufficient for you to live a happ life?
— Madhur Singh (@ThePlacardGuy) April 26, 2023
I wish they offered 50k as a starting salary. In Mumbai, at least, haven’t seen any firm offer that. They all start at like 18-20. And yeah, you’re right, it’s ridiculous to think one can survive on that much. Most would just go on rent.

Don’t want to preach but have never earned 50K pm as salary (side hustles, yes. Salary, no). One learns to live frugally, save diligently, invest wisely. Life skills like cooking, cleaning, laundry come handy in cutting expenses.
Hopefully you will get great raises.— namita (@namitaj68) April 26, 2023
Another user who has experience in hiring freshers replied with reasons why fresher salaries are so less
He said,
As someone that hires freshers…that because their value add straight out of college is so low that you can’t afford to pay them more. If they had better skill sets and more longevity salaries would be higher…
