Traffic police pulling up challans for violating traffic rules caught on cameras is nothing new. This new system is been prevalently used to catch people evading traffic rules and regulations. Recently, oddly enough, the Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police have issued a ₹1,000 challan to a woman for apparently driving her car without a helmet in Noida.

Noida woman charged Rs. 1000 fine for driving a car without a helmet

On June 27, a woman was fined for driving without a helmet when she doesn’t even own a two-wheeler in the first place. The situation came forward when Shailja Chaudhary, the vehicle owner who is a teacher at a government school received an e-challan on Friday for violating traffic rules. The accused resides in Zeta-1 in Greater Noida and was apparently seen near Hoshiyarpur.

Shailja said,

“On the evening of July 7, while I was occupied with household chores, I received a message from the Traffic Police on my mobile phone. Initially, I thought that a relative who had visited my home might have violated traffic rules while driving my car. However, when I opened the message, I was shocked to see a photo of a bike attached to the challan and my car’s registration number mentioned for driving without a helmet at 8.29 am on June 27”

Furthermore, Shailja also firmly claimed that she doesn’t have any two-wheeler registered under her name and was not physically present there in Hoshiyarpur on the said date.

Chaudhary added,

Who’s mistake it is?

She has clearly highlighted the fact that this is definitely a mistake on the part of the traffic police and she is not the person they are looking for.

Shailja also opened up about how the distance between the traffic control room in Noida and her home is around 35km. She is reluctant to travel such a long distance to make right an issue where she did nothing accusatory in the first place.

She said,

“The challan instructs me to visit the traffic control room office in Noida Sector 14A before the due date, or legal action will be taken against me. The distance between my home and Sector 14A is approximately 35 km”

What was the reason behind the challan?

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Preeti Yadav has informed that the integrated traffic management system (ITMS) is used to automatically read the vehicle’s registration number, but the system may come up with a different registration number occasionally.

Preeti Yadav has also specified how to cancel the challan,

“If the vehicle owner approaches the traffic police, they cancel the challan if it is determined to be incorrect. Complainants can directly approach our office or contact us via email”

Apparently, the traffic police receives various complaints regarding this issue as it keeps happening time and again.
