For most, Chhath Puja is a time of devotion, fasting, and offering prayers to the Sun God. But for Gayatri, this year’s celebration brought something far more personal, a reunion with her childhood friend Avi, after more than three decades apart. The Festival of Faith led to an unexpected encounter. What began as a routine festival turned into a moment of serendipity, reminding us that some bonds, no matter how distant, are never truly lost.

Gayatri and Avi were classmates who used to share the same school bus route back in the 90s

Back then, Gayatri was in XII-A and Avi in XI-B. In a post on X, Gayatri recalled their nostalgic school days and shared how their hour-long commute became a daily ritual of deep conversations, philosophy, politics, music, and books.

However, life took a different course, and they went on to follow different paths. Gayatri moved to another city for higher studies, and since back then, there was “no internet or mobile phones to stay in touch”, they eventually lost contact.

Years later, Gayatri tried to find Avi online. Her search led her to a LinkedIn profile of a software engineer in Atlanta. Unsure, she messaged him. The reply was instant and warm. Avi remembered her vividly, calling their bus rides “some of the fondest memories” of his childhood

She shared,

“I took the chance of asking about him in a WhatsApp group of a school reunion, which had over 1,000 people. One person responded privately and connected me to the LinkedIn profile of a software engineer in Atlanta, US.”

She sent him a message, “asked if he is who I think he is”. Avi immediately remembered her, recalling their school bus days as “one of the fondest childhood memories he holds close to his heart.”
