Why does Jackie Shroff carry a spider plant with him to every event he attends
Recently, Jackie Shroff was spotted walking the red carpet of the grand launch of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre with a spider plant in his hand, posing for the cameras. However, this wasn’t the first time!

Reportedly, Jackie Shroff does this in order to urge people to conserve environment and reduce pollution by planting more trees. He said,
“I didn’t do any favor to the world by planting trees. Everyone’s job is to plant, apply, if you want to plant a new one, then die by burning. That’s what’s going to happen. You don’t have to think of your child’s child. I’m half in the grave. Others will also come, our pillars will come”
When asked in an interview regarding why he carries a spider plant specifically, he told that the plant is unique.
He said,
“This plant is unique. It cuts away elements like benzene from the air and gives you oxygen in return. Recently, I learnt about this and I felt I should have it around me.”
Do you know that his necklace has an actual plant?
On multiple occassions he has been spotted wearing a spider plant necklace to several events. Surprisingly it is an actual potted plant as a necklace.

When asked he said,
“I planted it in this custom-made pot, which my friend gifted me. I water it every day. I wear it around my neck, but people can keep a bigger sized plant in their cars and also as decorative pieces in their homes. It’s a lot better than keeping an expensive statue or a piece of art”
His love for trees has roots in his childhood days
Apparently, Jackie Shroff has always adored plants and it is not a recent obssesion. He planted a lot of trees as a kid.
He said,
“I remember I had planted methi daana many years ago. Jab usmein se jhaad aaya, it felt like I had given birth to a new life form. Baat khopdi mein tabhich baith gaya tha, aur abhi mere haddi se nikal raha hai. I think we must plant at least four-five saplings, which can gradually grow into trees. It’s the greatest insurance for the next generation. Every school and every classroom can do with a nagfani or a snake plant, which keeps the air pure. We can only breathe for as long as there’s a tree that can give you oxygen”

On World Environment Day in 2019, Jackie Shroff had urged his fans to grow plants in his own unique style.
He said,

“Yeh sab bade log yahan aaye hain subah ko yeh batane ki jhaad (plants) lagao. Aap logon ko samajhna chahiye, bheedu. Yeh bolne ki baat thode hi hai? Lagana chahiye jhaad. Apun apne liye nahi, apun apne bachchon ke liye jhaad chhod kar jaane wala hai. Apun toh aadha kabr mein hai. Bindass! Aisa jhaad lagao jo raat ko bhi oxygen de! Neem ka aur peepal ka jhaad lagao, usse daba ke oxygen milta hai, boss!”
