Lack of empathy and deep nestled sexism reflects in weird ways. It is funny how even if the world is collapsing, people will not let go of the opportunity to point their fingers at women. The people at large still blame women. The concept of equality in a country like India is nothing but buffoonery. Though the country is slowly progressing, the deep-rooted societal stigmas shackle us back. The recent statement by Sonali Kulkarni is proof.
In a recent interview with Bhupenddra Singh Raathore, Sonali spoke at length about how modern Indian women are apparently ‘lazy’ and how they wish for a high earning, settled husband without giving any input in the household’s finances.

Sonali Kulkarni’s sexist comment on Indian women
Twitter is totally in shambles and divided in its reaction to her statement. While many men are praising her apparently for saying the ‘truth’, many women have criticized her myopic take on this issue.
In a recent interview, the actress shared an opinion, where she said that women are actually lazy and want to live off their husband’s wealth. She also added that the societal pressure of earning is more for men, whereas women keep deciding where they want to go with their lives even in their 20s. And the main issue that triggered a mass cancellation on Twitter is the generalization of women. Basically, women were classified as lazy and men as hardworking.
“They want a boyfriend or husband, who earns well, owns a house, and gets regular increments. But, in the middle of this, women forget to make a stand for themselves. Women don’t know what will they do”
She didn’t hold back from saying that women need to ‘humble’ themselves. She also not so subtly referred to workplace harassment and how women complain to HR at every given opportunity when someone talks about their outfit. She added that she felt ‘like crying’ for her brothers and husband who had started working at the age of 20 after he got placed through a campus placement interview.
I feel like crying for my brothers, my husband was selected from a campus interview when he was 20. And he had started earning, why?”
Reaction of netizens on Twitter
So I am not linking to Sonali Kulkarni’s video on lazy women and industrious men.
Maybe this is what she is. And maybe this is who she knows
Our views are shaped by who we are and who we know. This is what she knows. Maybe she should get a job or something.(1) pic.twitter.com/Dy1X4nYyd6

I’m not sharing Sonali Kulkarni’s trash video, but it really angers me. You can’t call all women lazy when the gender equality balance is so skewed. Yes there are women who want to marry wealth. But most women in this country aren’t given education or the freedom to work.

Ma’am @sonalikulkarni it might be shocking for you. But a lot of us also got campus placed and started earning at 20. The women who don’t earn do a lot of unpaid house labor. That apart, housewives in most rural india earn passive income. It’s utterly irresponsible a statement. https://t.co/Pv9Pdp99hw

Another person wrote,
“Women will financially contribute to the household chores only when men start sharing 50% of the household chores. @sonalikulkarni the men you’re defending won’t stand up for your rights. They’re clapping for you because you spoke what they wanted to hear. Stop being a ‘pick-me’”
The irresponsible comment has enraged a lot of people on the internet.
