Bollywood actor Richa Chadha stirred up the internet for her insensitive remark on the Indian Army recently. She made it to the headlines after she took to Twitter and reacted to a top army officer’s statement on taking Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) back.

During the Galwan clashes in June 2020, twenty Indian soldiers died for the country. A series of conflicts arose between the two nations because over 40 Chinese soldiers were killed or injured in that incident.

The Indian and Chinese troops drew back from the critical points including Gogra-Hot Springs in Ladakh after numerous meetings between military commanders. After a lot of discussions, the Chinese forces went back to their pre-2020 positions.

When Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated his intentions on taking back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi reacted to it by issuing a statement that the army is “always ready” to take any order from the government. He stated,

“As far as the Indian Army is concerned, it will carry out any order given by the Government of India. Whenever such orders are given, we will always be ready for it,”

He also added that they have just started their journey of expansion in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and once they reach Gilgit and Baltistan, they will reportedly achieve their goal. He also stated that if the ceasefire understanding is broken at any instance India will give them (Pakistan) a befitting reply. He said,

“The military is always ready to make sure that ceasefire understanding is never broken as it is in the interest of both nations, but if broken at any time, we will give them a befitting reply,”

Richa Chadha faced the wrath of netizens who reacted by calling her post “shameful and disgraceful”

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said,

Is it correct? Do we even understand the valour that was displayed in Galwan by the soldiers who gave up their life fighting for their motherland? It’s unfortunate and condemnable to come out with this kind of post”

The BJP went on to condemn the post by the actress in a video statement. They stated,

“India and Indians respect the Army and the armed forces. When our chief of the army says something we respect that. It is unfortunate that someone from posting something on social media decides to mock the army”

“An actor, Richa Chadha, has made a joke dragging Galwan valley in her tweet. I demand the chief minister and the home minister to take stringent action on this. Such actors, who make anti-national tweets should be banned,”

Vineet Jindal, a Supreme Court lawyer, had earlier demanded her arrest due to the controversial tweet

Following the social media uproar for mocking the sacrifices of the Indian Army in the Gaiwan clashes, Richa again tweeted that she had no idea about the row and was informed by a call in the morning. The actor tweeted,

“Just received a call, had muted replies so had no idea…bye all,”

The actress later issues an apology

Richa Chadha took to her official Twitter handle to ask for an apology and remarked that it was unintentional, adding that it is an emotional issue for her.
In her apology tweet, she wrote,

“Even though it can never be my intention in the least, if the 3 words which are being dragged into a controversy have offended or hurt anyone, I apologise and also say that it would sadden me if even unintentionally my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the fauj (army) of which my own Nanaji has been an illustrious part,”

She also added that her grandfather was a “Lieutenant Colonel”, who took a bullet in the leg in the Indo-China war. She added in her apology post,
