Raveena Tandon Kohinoor diamond

Since Queen Elizabeth II demise, several topics other than her death have been trending on internet. Including British dominion over a number of sovereign nations, stolen artifacts, and the bloody and slave-filled past of British colonial history.

Speaking of India, which is also a former British Colony, many Indians on various social media platforms have stated that the British should return the Kohinoor diamond to India. Since they allegedly took it from India before it became an independent country.

Bollywood star Raveena Tandon, on Tuesday, also joined the conversation on Twitter by posting a clip from John Oliver’s program. In the clip, he discussed how Britain appropriates artefacts and other unique items from other nations and claims as its own.

For the uninitiated, John Oliver’s show “Last Week Tonight” included a story on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the UK earlier in 2015. The host of the show said that the Kohinoor diamond had been “removed” from India and was currently seated on an “elegant head sofa” (he pointed towards the British crown’s photo).

Kohinoor’s return has been demanded by the government on several occasions, the first one being in 1947

A large, colourless diamond known as Kohinoor, which translates to “Mountain of Light,” was discovered in southern India at the start of the 14th century. The priceless jewel, which was in the possession of the British during the colonial era, is the subject of a long-standing ownership controversy. With at least four nations, including India, claiming ownership. The British government, though, has always denied the claims.

After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the diamond’s ownership was once more in doubt. As Queen consort after King Charles III’s accession to the throne, his wife, Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, will receive the 105-carat diamond, which is steeped in royal history.

Raveena Tandon shares John Oliver’s old video on Kohinoor with a hilarious response

For years, Indians haven’t asked the British to hand over the Kohinoor diamond. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Kohinoor debate is once more in the spotlight.

Making an entry in this debate, well-known actress Raveena Tandon recently shared an old clip from comedian and political analyst John Oliver’s show. In the video Oliver makes fun of Britain for taking artefacts and other rare belongings from other nations and claiming them as their own. She captioned,

“Just fantastic! His Punchline: “The entire British museum should be declared an active crime scene!””

In 2021, Raveena Tandon made her OTT debut with Netflix’s Aranyak. She most recently appeared in KGF Chapter 2, India’s largest box office hit of the year. In the movie, she portrayed the Prime Minister of India.

If recent reports are to be believed, she is set to appear in Binoy Gandhi’s upcoming film Ghudchadi. In the movie, she will star alongside Sanjay Dutt, Parth Samthaan, and Aruna Irani.
