Ola Responds After Woman Shares Nightmarish Cab Experience In Gurugram

Chilling events related to cab delivery services have been making headlines recently. This time the complainant is a woman who had a traumatic experience with Ola Cabs during a ride to Gurgaon. A Delhi-based woman shared the details of what she referred to as a terrifying Ola cab ride and slammed the company for a lack of accountability.

Woman shared her ordeal sparking widespread concern over passenger safety

Shazia A, a senior manager at Genpact, took to LinkedIn and explained that the incident occurred on December 20 at approximately 1.30 pm, in Gurgaon. She shared that it started after the cab crossed the toll plaza en route to Gurgaon. The driver slowed down the vehicle without giving any proper reason near the National Media Centre after crossing the toll, ignoring the passenger’s repeated questions about the reason.

Two men ahead of the cab signaled for the driver to pull over a while later. The passenger was shocked to see that the driver complied without hesitation, parking the car on the side of the road as per their instructions.

This horrific experience of the woman passenger raised serious questions about the safety protocols and accountability of ride-hailing services in India, especially for women passengers.

According to the woman, the situation worsened as two more men approached the vehicle, making it a total of five (including the driver). She said that the driver mentioned a pending loan installment. The driver remarked, “Meri kist pending hai” (my installment is due), implying some financial dealings with the men.

She insisted the driver to continue the trip, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. Rather, the men started approaching the cab, leaving her with no choice but to take immediate action. Gathering her courage she fled from the cab.

In her post she mentioned,

“Feeling unsafe, I opened the right-side door and ran for my life. It was an extremely traumatic experience, and I cannot emphasize enough how terrified I felt”

She further added that the SOS button of the Ola cab did not work, she wrote,

“To make matters worse, when I tried to use the SOS button on the Ola app, it did not work”

The incident has raised concerns and discussions about the safety of ride-hailing services in India, particularly when a woman is traveling alone. The passenger addressed Ola and its CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, to take immediate and concrete steps to address the safety concerns highlighted by her experience. She stressed that safety is not merely a feature but a fundamental responsibility that must be prioritized. The post read,

“I raised a complaint with Ola, but it has now been over 24 hours, and I have not received any response. This lack of accountability and urgency from Ola’s team is both shocking and deeply disappointing. Passenger safety is not just a feature—it’s a fundamental responsibility”

According to NDTV, they contacted the woman to ask if Ola reached out regarding the incident. The woman confirmed that they did reach out, however, the investigation and further actions are still pending.
