Ranveer Singh is receiving a lot of praise for his performance in Kabir Khan’s film 83, which was released on December 24 and has been doing well at the box office.
Deepika Padukone plays Romi Dev, Kapil Dev’s wife, in the film, which is based on the true tale of the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup after beating two-time winners West Indies in the finals under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The film also stars Harrdy Sandhu, Jatin Sarna, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Saqib Saleem, and more actors in important roles.
There’s no doubt that Ranveer Singh put in a lot of effort for his character since the audience believes they’re seeing Kapil Dev in the film rather than Ranveer Singh. What’s more impressive is that Ranveer Singh perfected Kapil Dev’s bowling motion for giving his hundred per cent in this film.
Although, you might be shocked to learn that one of Ranveer Singh’s close friends was the first favourite choice for the character of Kapil Dev, not Ranveer Singh himself.
Producer Vishnuvardhan Induri and national award-winning writer-director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan originally thought about producing a film about this topic in 2014, and their first candidate for the character of Kapil Dev was Ranveer Singh’s close friend.
His friend was considered for the role, and he even began cricket training for that, but things changed in 2017 when Sanjay was replaced by Kabir Khan. According to Kabir Khan, the only actor he had in mind for the character of Kapil Dev was Ranveer Singh, who was subsequently contacted for the role.
When Ranveer’s friend learned that Ranveer Singh was being considered for the role, he urged that he should not take it, but also stated that it was his decision. This left Ranveer Singh in a tough dilemma because if he had declined the job, he would have missed out on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play a major role, and if he had taken it, his best friend would have been disappointed.
Within six months, though, Ranveer Singh and his friend had settled the problem professionally, with no bitter feelings between them. Ranveer Singh accepted the assignment, and the rest is history, as they say.
Now you might be wondering that who is that Ranveer’s friend?
Well, it’s none other than Arjun Kapoor, his colleague and co-star from Gunday.
Following the completion of the first draft, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and Vishnuvardhan Induri approached Arjun, who loved the storyline but wanted filmmaker Aditya Chopra to co-produce it.
Chopra, on the other hand, was so taken with the script that he wanted to buy it all together, but Sanjay wanted to direct it himself. Arjun even put his appearance to the test.
Arjun enlisted the help of Vikramaditya, Madhu, and Vikas, all of whom were close to him. They continued to summon Sanjay to their office but wouldn’t discuss the script.
According to some reports, when 83 was formally unveiled at an event, Sanjay learned from a friend that he had been replaced and that Ranveer was being considered for the role of the renowned cricketer.
It’s also worth noting that Arjun didn’t attend the premiere of one of his closest friends since he’s filming Kuttey, but Kapoor should have spared a few minutes for Ranveer because it was such a special occasion for him.
The fans have appreciated and complimented everything about the film, from the plot to the music. So, what are your thoughts? Is it fair that Ranveer Singh deserves to be applauded for the effort he has put in, or that Arjun Kapoor would receive more acclaim if he was a part of this film?
