Here’s Why Nora Fatehi Has Sued Jacqueline And What The Case Is All About

The Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez has been sued by Nora Fatehi, a fellow actor, who has filed a defamation case in a Delhi court. She claimed that statements were made “to destroy her career”.

Both Fatehi and Fernandez have been questioned about the money laundering case which has been filed against the alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

According to Fatehi’s plea, Fernandez has allegedly “made defamatory imputations” for some “malicious reasons” with the intention to “destroy her career to further her own interests”.

Jacqueline Fernandez and Sukesh Chandrashekhar Case Involvement

Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the alleged, has been accused of extorting Rs 200 crore from the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter, Shivinder Singh. Enforcement Directorate (ED), in its supplementary charge sheet filed in the case on August 17, has claimed that gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore were received by Fernandez from Chandrashekhar They were reportedly from the proceeds of crime.

Fernandez’s plea goes by,

“trying to justify herself that she was in fact the victim of manipulative actions by Sukesh against her”

In October this year, Fernandez’s bail plea was opposed by the ED. She allegedly made a futile attempt to flee the country

Also, reportedly Fernandez has never cooperated with the investigations regarding this matter and made disclosures only when confronted with concrete evidence. In addition, the agency said Fernandez had also deleted evidence and asked the others involved in the case to do the same.

In November, Fernandez was granted bail by a Delhi court. The court said whether she was accused of receiving gifts from Sukesh out of the proceeds of the crime would be decided during the trial regarding the possibility of,

‘whether there was any knowledge, intention, or connection of accused in taking those gifts and of proceeds of crime in this case”

Fatehi has been called for questioning several times too as she also received gifts from Sukesh but has not been made an accused. Her statement has been included in the prosecution complaint.

What exactly has been claimed by Fatehi in her plea?

According to Fatehi, Fernandez had allegedly made a written statement to the PMLA appellate tribunal claiming that she has been,

“falsely implicated by the ED while celebs such as Nora Fatehi who had received gifts from Conman Sukesh Chandrashekar had been made witnesses”.

This was viewed by Fatehi as an attempt to defame and destroy her career.

Nora Fatehi’s plea read:

“Jacqueline Fernandes sought to criminally defame the complainant in order to destroy her career to further her own interests, since they are both working in the same industry and have similar backgrounds, amongst other reasons”

It also stated that Fatehi had nothing to do with the matter at hand and she had been intentionally accused to throw dirt at her image.

Fatehi’s plea also mentioned,

“It is pertinent to mention herein that both the complainant and the accused are actresses of foreign origin and both have had their share of struggles in rising to fame in the Indian film industry, hence, it is evident that the act of the accused in dragging the name of the complainant wherein she has no business mentioning the complainant is mala fide in nature”

Nora is of Canadian Moroccan origin while Fernandez is from Sri Lanka. Fatehi’s plea also claimed that several media houses responding to this case has led criminally to reproduce the defamatory statements made by Fernandez.
