Muqtida Hasan Nida, popularly known as Nida Fazli was one of the legendary and famous poets, lyricists of Hindi and Urdu. Nida Fazli was born on 12 October 1938 in Delhi into a Kashmiri family and grew up in Gwalior, Madhya.
His father’s name was Murtuza Hassan and his mother’s name was Jameel Fatima. His father was a poet, who migrated to Pakistan during the partition of India. In 1965, 18 years later, after the partition of India, his parents and other family members migrated to Pakistan but he chooses to stay in India instead of migrating to a country where his religion constitutes a major chunk of the population. He chooses to stay in the Republic of India due to its secular nature. He wrote in his autobiography about this,

By the time my family migrated to Pakistan, I had become aware, a change of place can’t be a solution to the problems of a person.
Fazli got his schooling from Gwalior itself and after that, he completed his post-graduation from Victoria College in Gwalior itself. Then, he came to Mumbai in 1964 and worked in newspapers like Dharmayug Patrika and Blitz. He began writing for Bollywood in the 1970s but his first successful break came with the movie Aap To Aise Na The (1980). The song Tu is tarah se meri zindagi me shamil hai became an instant hit. His poetic style attracted filmmakers and writers of Hindi and Urdu literature. He wrote the best songs for movies like Sarfarosh, Razia Sultan, Sur, Tamanna, Is Raat ki Subah Nahin, Nakhuda, Gudiya. Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh joined hands with Fazli to give some of the best songs which touched the hearts of thousands in their own way. He also wrote the title song of many TV serials. In 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award.
Fazli was married twice. His second wife was Malti Joshi. They became the parents of a daughter, Tehreer. He has a daughter named Tahrir. He left for heavenly abode on 08 February 2016 in Mumbai. It is said that his writings have been inspired from his own heartbreak, pain, separation which he molded into beautiful shayaris.
