Following these, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) strongly condemned derogatory remarks made by officials in the tourism-dependent country against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India.
They termed India as one of the closest neighbors and allies of the Maldives. MATI stated that India has always been a first responder to various crises throughout the history of the island country. MATI said,
“India is one of our closest neighbours and allies. India has always been a first responder to various crises throughout our history and we are immensely grateful to the close relationship that the government as well as the people of India have maintained with us”
Indians started to show their support in promoting local beach destinations and other stourist spots in Lakshadweep. They also supported PM Modi’s initiative for promoting beach tourism in Lakshadweep. Several celebrities and well-known personalities also came forward to support Lakshadweep tourism.
