Mithali Raj revealed why she is still not married
Former cricketer Mithali Raj recently had a brief conversation with renowned YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia. During the interview, Mithali Raj disclosed the reasons for her decision to stay single.
Mithali recalled an instance that caused her to lose interest in marriage. It happened when a family visited their home to see her for a marriage. Mithali told the soon-to-be groom during their meeting that she intends to keep playing cricket after they are married. Regretfully, the boy informed Mithali that she would have to take care of their parents and children after marriage and give up cricket. She stated:
I was the current India captain then, and he said, “Aapko cricket chodni padegi because after marriage you’ll have to look after the kids.”
According to Mithali, none of the possible suitors suggested by her mother’s sister realized they were speaking with the Indian women’s cricket team’s captain at the time. She said,
I was the current Indian captain then. One of them said you have to leave cricket because after marriage you have to look after the kids. I was still absorbing those statements. I don’t remember his name, though. The strangest question he asked was, ‘If something happened to my mother, would you look after her or go and play cricket?’ straightway replied asking, ‘What sort of question is this?’ He said: ‘I need to know what is more important to you.’ And I replied saying, ‘That will depend on the situation.’ I don’t exactly remember what I said next, but it clearly put me off.
She disclosed that she frequently found it puzzling that men would immediately go into “post-marriage scenes” after chit-chatting. Mithali acknowledged that at that age, her whole concentration was on Indian cricket and her profession. Additionally, she never gave those “post-marriage” considerations much thought. Speaking about this, Mithali said,
I didn’t get that sense, honestly (that they were talking to Mithali Raj). Now these calls were set up by my mother’s sister, so I agreed to talk. So after the pleasantries, they would dive straight into post-marriage scenes, discussing how many kids they wanted. I was on backfoot because those are the things I never imagined, nor did I ever discuss with anyone. I would always think about Indian cricket. So yes I was taken aback by some of those statements, of how many kids I want or that I have to let go of cricket.
Mithali reveals why she decided not to give up her career
Mithali explained how she decided not to give up on her career because of marriage after speaking with a friend. Her friend claimed that those were typical questions encountered by all female cricket players. Mithali said,

I remember a cricketer friend of mine said that you do have to adjust a bit because you will never find a person who will allow you to follow that same lifestyle. I told her that the question made no sense, but she replied saying most men ask such questions. I did not make up my mind till then, but it did trigger something in me. I felt my parents made all the sacrifices, I made a lot of sacrifices and I am not going to let it go for some random person who feels I have to let go of my career to look after his house.
Mithali Raj earlier talked about her marriage plans
In a previous interview with Sportskeeda, Mithali Raj talked candidly about her marriage and retirement goals. The former Indian captain declared that she would keep playing cricket as long as her health and fitness permit. She also mentioned that her ability to continue playing cricket after marriage is dependent on her in-laws’ support. However, Mithali made it plain that she intends to continue playing cricket after getting married, if her body permits her. She stated:
This is something that I have not given a thought about. But yes, if I remain fit and get enough support from my family then, of course, why not!
Is Mithali Raj getting married to Shikhar Dhawan, aka ‘Gabbar’?
Earlier, some rumors related to Mithali recently caused a stir on social media. Rumors said that she is getting married to cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. It was widely rumored in May 2024 that Shikhar Dhawan and Mithali Raj were getting married. The rumors became more serious as time went on. Many rapidly connected the dots and claimed that Shikhar was marrying Mithali following his divorce from Aesha Mukerji.
Shikhar did, however, address the rumors of his marriage to Mithali on his show, ‘Dhawan Karenge.’ The cricketer declared unequivocally that all of the rumors were untrue, putting an official end to the rumors. In one of his videos, he said,
