The railways are one of the most convenient modes of transportation in India. To say that it has connected far-off places closer to one another would be a sheer understatement. Traveling on a train is a pleasant and convenient experience. However, encountering weird passengers can make the journey strange and uncomfortable. Weird passengers can come in various forms, from someone who talks loudly or listen to loud music to someone who exhibits erratic behavior. While these things are day by day becoming common it is not right to practice them, especially at night. Therefore, keeping it in mind the Indian Railways have announced a slew of rules for passengers traveling at night.

The Indian Railways has come up with new guidelines to ensure that passengers are at peace while traveling during the night time

It is important to understand that lakhs of passengers travel via the railways. Therefore, one should do things keeping in the mind the convenience of all the passengers. We all know that smoking and drinking are already some of the forbidden activities on the railways. Furthermore, carrying any inflammable object is also strictly prohibited. The new night rules that the Indian railways have come up with include,

  • No passenger in their seat, compartment, or coach can talk on the mobile in a loud voice.
  • Anyone cannot listen to music at high decibels without earphones.
  • Passengers will not be allowed to keep the lights on after 10 PM except the night light.

Here are the post-10 PM Guidelines levied by the Indian Railways

The Onboard TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner), catering staff, and other railway servants have also been asked to maintain public etiquette on trains. Therefore, rules are made keeping them in mind as well. Check them out.

  • After 10 PM, TTE can’t come to check the ticket of the passenger.
  • Except for the night light, all lights should be switched off.
  • Passengers traveling in groups can’t interact after 10 PM.
  • Lower-berth Passengers can’t say anything if a middle-berth co-passenger opens up their seat.
  • Online food in train services can not serve food after 10 PM. However, you can pre-order your meal or breakfast on the train even at night with e-catering services.

What is important to understand is that while these rules may seem like nothing to some but serious actions will be taken against those who will not abide by them. Be it the railway staff or any other passenger whosoever will be seen violating these rules will be given stern punishments.

Encountering such experiences on trains, especially at night can be weird and uncomfortable. However, by staying calm, and alerting the authorities whenever necessary, you can ensure your safety and avoid any unpleasant situations.
