The clashes violence in North East Delhi have left the capital city burning and people scared for their lives. Several families have evacuated the area and have transported to somewhere safer. It is upsetting how dangerous a time it is for the national capital. As northeast Delhi was engulfed by communal clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act. But despite the flood of negativity, there remain glimmers of hope. Even as hateful communal bigots give us a glimpse of India’s ugliest underlying tendencies, there are still those residing in Delhi who can restore your faith in humanity. There are still heroes to be found, even as the city burns.

1. Residents of Yamuna Vihar, formed a human chain to escort school children to safety amidst the violence in Delhi.

In the absence of police, civilians of the area decided to protect school children. People on the internet lauded the humanity shown in the video. People forming the human chain saw no caste, class, and religion and were only concerned for the children’s safety.

2. As Delhi burns Gurudwaras open doors to anyone seeking shelter

A Gurdwara in Majnoo Ka Tila offered to help the injured and the needy. The Sikh community not only helped people seek shelter, they also patrolled the area to ensure no one can cause further damage.

3. In Seelampur, dalits blocked routes leading to Muslim locality and stood to prevent entry of people creating disturbance

In one of the one of the worst hit areas in Delhi, dalits blocked the roads against mob and sheltered Muslim families. Social media is hailing the heartwarming act.

4. BJP councillor saves Muslim family from mob in Yamuna Vihar

A local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ward councillor from Yamuna Vihar, came to the aid of a Muslim family and saved their house from being set ablaze by a mob of around 150 people, reported India Today.

5. A Twitter user from northeast Delhi shared on Twitter that, Hindus in his neighbourhood were guarding his house to make the family feel safe

6. In Ramesh Park areas, Hindus and Sikhs came out in large numbers to protect their Muslim neighbours if anybody tried to create trouble.

7. In Lalita Park area also, Hindus and Sikhs came out for their homes and assured them safety to Muslim neighbours.

8. In Yamuna Vihar, Hindus and Muslims united battle against to guard the region from outsiders.

Only unity can defeat these disturbing elements. Childrens were asked to stay inside their homes and the residents took all steps to prevent any damage.

9. In Bajrangbali Moholla in Maujpur, locals came together and took Muslim men, women and children into the Bajrang Bali Temple.

A man can be heard saying said while letting them in,

“Tum kyun darr rahe ho, ye to tumhaara hi moholla hai, JAHIL thode hi hai hum unki tareh.”

9. Hindu neighbours in Shiv Vihar risk life to shelter fleeing Muslim families.

According to a report by The Hindu, couple of Hindu households in north-east Delhi’s Shiv Vihar area offered shelter to 20 members of two Muslim families when mobs went on the rampage targeting people and establishments belonging to the minority community.

The great thing about humanity is that it knows no divisiveness. No matter how violent situations can get, there will always be people who will stand by others and protect them!
