A little history of the giant conglomerate
The Godrej Group, a prominent Indian conglomerate, was established in 1897 by Ardeshir Godrej and his brother Pirojsha Godrej. Initially focusing on locks, the company gained a reputation for producing high-quality, reliable products. This success led to expansion into safes and other security equipment, solidifying Godrej’s position as a trusted provider of secure storage solutions. This early focus on security and reliability laid the foundation for the company’s future growth and diversification.
Throughout the 20th century, Godrej expanded into various consumer goods, including soaps and toiletries. The launch of “Chavi,” India’s first indigenous soap, and the collaboration with Dr. Annie Besant for its promotion were key milestones. Godrej’s success in these new ventures demonstrated its ability to diversify and innovate.
In recent years, the Godrej Group has broadened its reach via various means. Finally, it has come to the stage where splitting is finalized. Hopefully, for the best though!
