Unquestionably, one of the most well-liked sports in India is cricket, and cricket fever is a real phenomenon there. In India, cricket is more than simply a game; it is a unifying cultural phenomenon. Large crowds frequently assemble in parks, on sidewalks, and in other public areas to watch live cricket matches on big screens.

India has unmatched excitement and love for cricket, with fans of all ages, genders, and socioeconomic levels taking the game very seriously. That’s why we took it very seriously whenever our team lost a match. It feels like we have lost something special. That’s why, after every loss, Indians started giving sermons to players about how to play cricket on social media platforms.

However, there are a few times when some people get the opportunity to share their insights directly with players. That’s what actually happened with the regular commuter when he encounters the Indian cricket team on the flight after India’s drastic performance at England tour 2014.

The amusing incident was shared by ace Indian cricket player Virat Kohli during his recent conversation with a platform. So, here’s what happened:

When a passenger tries to teach cricket players about gaming tactics

One of the hardest venues for the Indian squad to tour has been England, where India has struggled to win a Test series in the previous 16 years. India’s trip to England in 2014 was especially disappointing because they lost the five-match Test series 1-3. Virat Kohli’s dismal run of form, which saw the top hitter score only 134 runs in 10 innings, ruined the series.

Due to Kohli’s underwhelming performance, numerous supporters called for him to be benched and questioned his place in the squad. Many fans were disappointed with the team’s performance in the Test series, despite India’s stunning comeback in the ODI series when they defeated England 3-1.

Now, after 8 years, Virat Kohli has revealed the story of how a fan taught the Indian squad some basic cricket techniques on a flight. According to Kohli, the individual approached MS Dhoni directly to provide advice and then sought a century from him.

Speaking on the most recent RCB Podcast edition, Kohli described the humorous exchange with the passenger and remarked,

The man first headed to Mahi (MS Dhoni) and started talking about how the team composition should be and MS ignored it efficiently. He then shifted his focus to me and asked me what exactly is going on with my bat.

Kohli went on to describe how he dealt with the passenger’s abrupt outburst. He added,

The man said that he wanted a hundred from me in the next game. I was young back then and that kind of flicked the switch and I invited him for a conversation. I asked him where he works and he mentioned some company. Then I asked him about his designation and he mentioned that he was some kind of manager. I then replied saying in the next three years, I want you to be the chairman of the company.

The fan took Kohli’s remark hard, and he soon realized that international cricket is not as easy as it seems. The top Indian batter went on to say that as the passenger continued to be persistent, the entire Indian squad started yelling “Coach-Coach,” which humiliated the fan and forced him to go back to his seat.

The anecdote went viral on various social media platforms, and many people couldn’t stop themselves from talking about it.

While we know that seeing our team in a poor position breaks our hearts, we also need to understand that players’ poor performance is not just because they are playing poorly. Sometimes, it’s about the pressure they are handling from playing on a foreign field.

So, we also need to think about this before making assumptions about our players.
